It’s no mystery that Marvel Studios has always been strict with Non-Disclosure Agreements, but it seems that the recent leak of the Quantumania script as the straw that broke the camel’s back.
As per Variety, Disney Marvel has filed a request for the court to issue a subpoena to compel Reddit to reveal who had leaked 63 pages of the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania script a month before the film’s release.
Marvel has specifically requested for, “all Identifying Information for the user ‘u/MSSmods’” as well as “any other user(s) responsible for posting, editing, and/or maintaining the content” from the period of January 15 to February 15. The subpoena request was also filed pursuant to the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
With so many people online making a living with releasing insider scoops, a lot of online personalities are starting to wonder how this court case is going to go down. We don’t know if this could mark the end of the inside scoopers, but at least we know that Marvel is starting to put its foot down when it comes to these legitimate online leaks.
On Reddit’s end, a spokesperson had said that their priority is to protect their users. They said, “Reddit is committed to protecting our users’ privacy. We have rigorous processes in place to assess legal requests and object when appropriate.”
Personally, Ant-Man 3 was kind of such a lukewarm film that I don’t really see why Marvel is fussing about it getting leaked. Then again, they could just be acting early in case we get a leak from one of their larger projects like Secret Wars.
We’ll just have to wait and see how it all goes down.
