The long wait for another “X-Men” TV show is over. After “Legion’s” successful first season in FX comes the newest series order from FOX, “The Gifted.” The show has been teased for a few months now, with the show’s title initially being the title for the first episode of the series. Turns out, “The Gifted” is indeed the official name for the much-awaited “X-Men” series.
The mutant TV show was created by Matt Nix, who also serves as the showrunner. The pilot episode is directed by none other than long time “X-Men” director—Bryan Singer. He will also serve as “The Gifted’s” executive producer. Along with this awesome news, FOX has also released a short but very exciting teaser of the newest comic book series on it’s roster.
The Gifted Teaser: The X-Men At It’s Best
The teaser for “The Gifted” features a lot of “X-Men” themes that we’ve all seen since it hit television in the 90’s (in the form of an animated series.) We’re shown a pair of kids experimenting with their powers, as many new mutants do. Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) shows off her impressive Jean Grey-like abilities to her brother Percy by stealing a pack of chips in a vending machine. It also shows their parents, played by Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker, with the latter saying that what their kid can do is a burden and a gift.
The teaser is a very brief introduction to what we can expect. Judging by the look and feel of it, “The Gifted” seems to be channeling straight from it’s “X-Men” comic book sources, with visuals drawing familiar references from Singer’s past “X-Men” projects. There’s also a number of mutant power footage on display; which strongly suggests that Nix, Singer and the rest of “The Gifted” team will not hold back in putting comic book themes for the series.
There is a huge difference between FOX’s “The Gifted” and FX’s “Legion.” The latter “X-Men” series followed a specific kind of aesthetic, mainly drawing themes from Alfred Hitchcock and Stephen King’s “The Shining.” We didn’t really get that much mutant action from “Legion,” but for those hungry for it, “The Gifted” seems like it will be doing just that, with all the powers and dilemma involved in every “X-Men” mutant’s life.
“The Gifted” is set to premiere on FOX in the fall of 2017. Watch the teaser below:
