DJ Marshmello’s real identity beneath the sweet mask has been a hot debate ever since his debut in 2015. On Sunday, at the iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards, he has once again taken off his mask and revealed his identity.
According to Billboard, the DJ came out to accept his award for “Friends,” a collaboration with Anne Marie. After receiving his award, he takes off his mask and reveals himself to be none other than Shawn Mendes.
Marshmello and Mendes didn’t stop their antics there, however. Later on, Marshmello sent out a tweet saying “Secrets out…we’re a duo now.” with a picture of the actual DJ wearing the mask and Mendes by his side. Though fans are speculating an actual collaboration, no official statements have been made to confirm it.
Marshmello is one of the most widely successful DJs of the present. Two years following his debut, he hit the top spot fast, racing ahead fellow masked DJs such as Deadmau5 and Daft Punk. In 2017, the DJ attended around 170 gigs costing $150, 000 a show. Avid EDM fans have been connecting the dots. And they’ve concluded that he is DJ-producer Chris Comstock also known as Dotcom according to Forbes. However, until now, Marshmello’s real identity is being kept strictly under wraps.
