Margot Robbie is an Icon in First Teaser for Barbie

Fans thought the first Barbie teaser was going to be exclusive in theaters for a while, but WB has decided to release it online after all. Check out Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and more in the first teaser for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie:

We don’t really have much to get about the plot, but the teaser starts with some actual history from the Barbie toy; in that it introduced an adult doll that girls can play with during a time when little girls were only given baby dolls. I guess it’s also worth noting that this was all done in a parody of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Besides that, we have some shots of what looks like ‘Barbieland’, with a bunch of colourful characters.

The plot for the film is still under wraps, but based on rumors online, the film will have Barbie and Ken travelling from ‘Barbieland’ to the real world, where they will be fishes out of water. While the duo try their best to navigate the new world, Will Ferrell, who is said to be playing the CEO of Mattel, will be out to bring the two back to where they belong.

Though Robbie and Gosling are said to be Barbie and Ken, other actors in the cast like Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Ncuti Gatwa, and Hari Nef are said to be playing alternate versions of the pair.

The core audience for the movie may be kids, but with a script from Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, some cinephiles are expecting something more cerebral in terms of a movie made to sell toys.
