Manifest continues to elevate Olive’s position, with her and TJ uncovering a critical puzzle piece. Cal is conspicuously gone. For a character who was so crucial in the first season, his disappearance and decreased significance leave us perplexed.
The episode kicks off with Zeke and Courtney’s relationship flashback. Zeke was outside talking to a guy who gave him drugs. He went home, and Courtney was on his bed. He gave her the “medicine,” and they played a paper game with the name of colors on it. Zeke chose a number, then Courtney counted — it said they should marry. Zeke lay in bed, so Courtney did. She was joking. It said to go to the movies.
Fast forward to the present, Courtney tells the support group about her past without referring directly to Zeke. Zeke is there listening to what she is saying.
Ben is giving Michaela some old belongings she may use at her apartment over at the Stone house. Michaela informs Ben that Zeke and Courtney were never officially married, and while she sympathizes with Courtney’s narrative, she is desperate to get her out of her apartment.
Jared dons a new hairstyle cut by his new girlfriend, Tamara (Leah Gibson).
Olive and TJ go to the “Believers ‘” church again. While they walk, they talk about their parents. TJ says his mom is a Buddhist. Suddenly, Isaiah interrupts their conversation. He says it’s an honor to have both of them there. But Adrian tells Olive to leave. He is obligated to accept her father’s desires because she is a minor. Isaiah expresses concern about evicting Olive, claiming that other “believers” may lose faith. But Adrian promises him a greater miracle will persuade them.
Back at the Stone residence, Ben announces that Grace’s whisk has a new home, but Grace is unhappy: one magazine would like to feature her pregnancy and their baby as a Flight 828 baby. Ben and Grace agree to cancel the interview, outraged that the reporter is aware of the pregnancy.
While they talk, Ben suddenly gets a calling where he is with Michaela and Saanvi. Michaela talked about how sweet and drunk Ben was; she even mentioned, “Great marriage pep talk.” In the last part, he saw Saanvi asking for help, and then she suddenly faded away.
Michaela asks her captain about the leak at the precinct, but the captain says to stop pointing fingers and catch the bad guy. Suddenly, she receives a text from Ben, saying Saanvi needs help.
Ben and Michaela go to Saanvi to check if she is okay. They can’t open the door, so they decide to call security, who happens to be walking toward them. The door opens; they see Saanvi unconscious on the floor. They bring her to the hospital, waiting to see if she’ll be okay.
Michaela receives a text and informs Ben she must go. Ben hears from the doctor that Saanvi will be okay. She is fortunate they rescued her on time.
When it’s evident Saanvi is well, Ben expresses his disappointment she experimented on herself and reminds her she can’t save any passengers if she’s dead. He convinces her not to attempt it again; she agrees. Saanvi informs Ben about her calling to help a small kid who was terrified. She gives Ben the youngster’s seat number. He asserts a person named Finn was on the seat — not a boy. He concludes talking to the man and seeing the relationship is the best choice.
Olive and TJ go to the carnival location from three years ago. They are looking for the tarot card reader who gave them the card. TJ mentions he went there with a classmate. Olive then shyly asks if it was his girlfriend. He says she was not. They see a tarot reader who might help them find the tarot reader from three years ago.
They ask the lady if she knows a specific tarot reader, but she shrugs and says she doesn’t do missing persons. So the two decide to show the card to the lady and ask if she knows it. The tarot reader mentions it’s a Star Card from the Major Arcana, corresponding to Aquarius and Air Elements. They keep asking about the card, and they find out the deck the card belongs is out of print for decades. The tarot reader gives addresses of some people who sell rare decks in New York.
Ben locates the Wall Street person named Finn (Rafi Silver), but he claims not to have a son. He informs Ben he had a one-night encounter with a lady in Jamaica — Orlena (Marcy Harriell). During their conversation, Ben finds a childhood photo of Finn; he resembles the child in the advertisement.
Michaela returns home to discover Courtney is severely abused. She admits to Michaela and Zeke she owes $20,000 to a drug dealer called Lucas (Anthony Ordonez). He dispatched several goons to deliver the news that she must work for him until she pays.
Ben returns to the hospital and informs Saanvi about Finn and the photo. Finn’s one-night affair, he believes, resulted in the birth of a child who is the child in their calling. Saanvi accepts and joins Ben in his search for the mother.
Olive and TJ go back to Ben’s place to search for the tarot card. They find out the deck’s creator: Yusuv Al-zuras, who traveled around Europe and lost at sea for ten years. Upon his return, he claimed he could hear the voice of God, like the same happenings to all of the passengers of Flight 828. TJ thinks the callings led them to Al-zuras to know that the Death Date is actual. Olive starts to have fun at tarot reading for TJ to lighten up the mood.
Ben and Saanvi track down the woman Finn was with. When Ben mentions Finn’s name, she asks them to leave and points out that her husband of 10 years is a good father to their three kids.
Courtney tells Michaela that Zeke really wants to be clean because he’s with Michaela. Courtney reveals they planned to stop before, but he would have a backup plan having a stockpile of drugs in his belongings. Zeke talks to Lucas on the phone and arranges a meeting. After getting a calling, she says she’ll go with him. Michaela brings her partner, Drea, up-to-date and enlists her help to catch Lucas.
Ben and Saanvi tell Finn they found Orlena, and when she was with him, she’s married. He asks if he may at least see the child. They agree to arrange a meeting with Orlena.
Zeke and Michaela approach Lucas, appearing as though they want to strike a deal with him to get him off Courtney’s back. Lucas claims he doesn’t know Michaela and demands she inject heroin to show she isn’t a cop. Michaela gets into an argument with Zeke, accusing Lucas of being a jerk and overcharging them. When one of Lucas’ goons identifies Michaela as a cop, he is about to make the deal merely to get rid of them. Lucas draws his gun, but Zeke tackles him. Drea walks in with her gun pulled and orders everyone to freeze.
Ben and Saanvi arranged for Finn and his son, Theo, to meet. Saanvi receives another call during the brief interaction and discovers Theo has yellowish eyes. She understands the boy’s liver is failing. Saanvi informs his mother Theo must be taken to the hospital— it’s an emergency. At the hospital, Finn discovers he is a perfect match for Theo and decides to donate a portion of his liver to his son.
Meanwhile, Jared encounters Tamara’s brother, Billy (Carl Lundstedt), who tells him to get lost and avoid his sister. He appears to have done some research and discovered Jared was once engaged to Michaela, a passenger on Flight 828. Jared tells Billy that Michaela returned, changed from the woman he loved, and wrecked his life. Billy unwinds and offers to buy Jared, now the police department’s mole, a drink.
Ben discovers Olive and TJ’s studies at the Stone residence. He compliments her on her performance and expresses his admiration. She explains TJ found something else and asks if she may meet him there. Yes, says Ben. Later, Grace suggests to Ben they do the magazine interview but lie and claim it’s Danny’s baby to shield the kid from those who dread and despise the 828 passengers. Ben is surprised and horrified Grace would suggest such a thing. He assures her he will safeguard their kid.
When Zeke and Michaela return home, they discover Courtney has disappeared. Zeke claims his debt to her has been paid, and she is now on her own.
TJ creates a picnic for Olive and himself. They flirt and kiss.
Saanvi is set to put herself to the test again as she, Ben, and Michaela receive another call. They observe fragments of Flight 828, with debris and ash everywhere. “Did we crash? “a startled Michaela asks Ben. Adrian stands outside the wreckage.
Our Thoughts
This episode is notable for a few reasons. It demonstrates why Ben and Saanvi are fan favorites, especially when they come together. Josh Dallas and Parveen Kaur have tremendous chemistry, and their scenes together are a joy to watch.
The episode concludes with a surprise disclosure, as is customary. Ben, Saanvi, and Michaela are summoned to an airplane crash site. But they are not all of the 828 passengers.
It remains to be seen whether this indicates that the Death Date will only kill a portion of the 828 people. The issue is whether Saanvi will unravel the secret in time to save everyone.
