Lucifer Season 6 Episode 9 Recap – Goodbye, Lucifer

[00:00:30] A man is praying inside the jail when his cell door opens. The guard tells him it’s time. He asks the guard if his family shows up. The guard says his parents showed up as well as his uncle. The man asks if his cat Mr. Meow-gi is present. The guard tells him they don’t allow pets. The guards escort him out of his cell. While they’re walking in the corridor, a lion appears. The man recognizes the lion as his cat, Mr. Meow-gi. He claps and calls the lion towards him. Jophiel brought the lion to the prison. Amenadiel tells Lucifer their siblings are answering prayers and are making a mess of things. He tells Lucifer a child prayed for a pet frog, so one of their siblings threw a frog but missed.

[00:02:30] Amenadiel wants Lucifer to become God, so he can stop their siblings. Their siblings won’t listen to Amenadiel because he isn’t God. Lucifer tells Amenadiel he no longer wants to become God. Amenadiel gets furious. They fought a war for Lucifer, and many of their siblings died, but now he doesn’t want to become God. Lucifer apologizes to Amenadiel and tells him to calm down. He knows they have time to work things out before everything spirals out of control. Meanwhile, Dan visits Le Mec in prison. He doesn’t understand how Le Mec is part of his guilt when he’s the guy who killed him. Le Mec is in the same prison where Jophiel released the lion. The guards respond to the lion emergency, leaving Le Mec’s cell open. Le Mec sees the opportunity to escape. Dan tries to stop Le Mec, but he can’t do anything.

[00:05:30] Lucifer wakes up ahead of Chloe and realizes he will no longer become God. He celebrates by removing it from his checklist. He makes a smoothie for Chloe who’s just about to wake up to the sound of his blender. Chloe doesn’t look happy, so she wonders why Lucifer is so happy. Lucifer explains he will no longer be God, and the world isn’t ending. Chloe tells Lucifer it’s August 4th, the day he will disappear, based on Rory’s story. Lucifer’s smile disappears upon learning what the day means. Lucifer asks Chloe why she didn’t remind him about August 4th. Chloe says she doesn’t really want to face the problem. They decide Lucifer still has free will, so he doesn’t need to disappear as long as he doesn’t go to Van Nuys.

[00:09:00] Lucifer builds a panic room to ensure he doesn’t go to Van Nuys. Rory arrives and sees Lucifer welding his panic room. He tells Rory they decided not to panic, so he built a panic room. Rory tells Lucifer about her theory of a time loop. She explains Lucifer won’t avoid the inevitable. Rory is still in the present, meaning nothing has changed in the future. She’s still angry with him, and he still abandons them. Lucifer continues building his panic room which Rory points out is lame. She dares Lucifer to spend his last day on Earth doing fun things. Lucifer removes his welding mask and spends the day doing fun things. He invites Rory to accompany him in case he has already forgotten how to be fun.

[00:12:00] Rory and Lucifer go out for some fun under the sun. They do some sumo wrestling, throw water balloons at each other and other people from his penthouse, and karaoke. They also buy a sample of each pastry from a bakeshop and a sample of each piece of jewelry from a jewelry store. They are about to cap the day by watching “Bones.” Rory tells Lucifer that the “Bones” spin-off from her time is better than the original. Rory is telling him about the new “Bones” when she has the urge to urinate. Chloe arrives at the penthouse and wonders why there are so many pastries. Lucifer tells her about his day with Rory. Chloe gets upset. Chloe doesn’t understand why Lucifer doesn’t want to stay instead of abandoning them.

[00:15:30] Chloe shows Lucifer her pregnancy test. Rory is already inside her belly. Rory tells Chloe about the time loop, but Chloe doesn’t want to accept that Lucifer doesn’t have a choice. She points out that Lucifer is just letting fate win. She tells Lucifer to find her when she chooses them over fate. Lucifer and Rory visit Linda and Charlie. Rory sees Charlie through the baby monitor and asks Linda if she can see him. Linda allows Rory to see Charlie while she keeps the clothes Charlie’s grown out of. Lucifer asks Linda if she believes in free will or fate. Linda tells Lucifer they need free will in therapy, but that’s before she meets Rory. Now she doesn’t know what to believe since Rory knows what will happen. Linda thinks it’s no longer their choice anymore.

[00:19:00] Lucifer takes over folding Charlie’s clothes because no one wants creases on the front of their clothes. Linda understands Lucifer’s question: It’s about abandoning Rory. Linda tells Lucifer she knows the pain of leaving a child. Lucifer tells Linda about Rory and Chloe arguing. Chloe thinks he has a choice to leave them or not, while Rory thinks everything is inevitable. Linda tells Lucifer no one knows how everything will end, so they should cherish every moment with each other. Lucifer realizes something and tells Linda he must do something. He tells Linda to tell Rory he’ll be back later. Before Lucifer leaves, he tells Linda she’s one of the most wonderful friend he could ever have.

[00:22:00] Chloe is at home studying physics and the laws of time travel when she hears a knock on her door. She opens the door and sees Amenadiel. He comes over to ask Chloe for a favor. He wants Chloe to convince Lucifer to ascend and take the throne. Chloe says Lucifer doesn’t think being God is his calling anymore. Amenadiel knows what Chloe is talking about because Lucifer already told him. Chloe wonders why Amenadiel doesn’t want to become God. He tells Chloe he wants to stay on Earth and live with Charlie. Chloe points out that God doesn’t need to rule Earth from heaven. But Amenadiel also doesn’t want to leave the LAPD because he also wants to help Sonya. He realizes he can still help Sonya and live on Earth to be with Charlie as God.

[00:24:00] Amenadiel asks Chloe to become his right-hand person in the LAPD if he ever decides to become God. Chloe accepts his offer. Amenadiel tells Chloe he must think things through. Chloe knows Amenadiel will make the right choice eventually. Meanwhile, Lucifer arrives at the precinct to apologize to Ella. He doesn’t want to leave Ella again without any notice. Ella thinks she’s dying or Lucifer is dying, but he denies both ideas. Lucifer gives Ella a gift. She opens the box and sees a pencil. Ella doesn’t understand why he gave her a pencil, but she accepts his heartfelt gift. Lucifer tells Ella to recheck the pencil, and she sees “Miss Lopez STEM Initiative.” Lucifer opened a foundation in her name to allow women to take up careers in science and mathematics just like Ella.

[00:28:00] Dan continues to follow Le Mec as he enters a convenience store and tries to buy some hair dye. He sees a news report about Le Mec, so Dan tries to get the cashier’s attention. Dan thinks he can touch the TV, but it’s the cashier has turned the volume up. But instead of calling the police, the cashier tries to take matters into his own hands. He holds a gun to Le Mec’s face, but he just swipes the gun off the cashier’s hand. Le Mec tells the cashier to empty the register. Dan tries to stop Le Mec from killing the cashier. He accidentally possesses Le Mec’s body. Dan rejoices for a moment as he is now able to grip objects. He returns the gun to the cashier who points it at his face and orders him to leave.

[00:31:00] Amenadiel goes to Lux to speak with Lucifer. He proposes to change how the celestials work and how to better handle man’s relationship with them. Lucifer tells Amenadiel he has a great idea, but he isn’t the right angel to assume Godhood. Amenadiel tells Lucifer he will become God. Lucifer congratulates Amenadiel for his decision. He plans to convince their siblings later on. Lucifer called Amenadiel to Lux to sign some paperwork, so he could become the joint owner of Lux. Amenadiel thought Lucifer wanted to spend time with his family, but he didn’t tell him what would happen. Lucifer tells Amenadiel that being God is really his calling. Amenadiel realizes something is bothering Lucifer.

[00:35:00] Lucifer thanks Amenadiel for spending time with him on Earth. He is glad that out of all their siblings, he got to spend time with Amenadiel on Earth. Lucifer tells him he’ll miss him. Amenadiel says he’ll just take a few days in the Silver City, but he’ll be back next week for Charlie’s preschool interviews. He’ll also start to set up shop as God on Earth. Amenadiel adds that Lucifer can’t get rid of him so easily. Lucifer goes to Maze next. He comes to see her and Eve off as they will spend their honeymoon in Brazil. Lucifer wants to hug Maze. She knows something isn’t right. Maze thinks Lucifer is in trouble, but Lucifer says he’s doing okay. Lucifer tells Maze she’s his best friend, and Lucifer wishes he has treated her as such.

[00:38:00] Before Maze leaves, she gives Lucifer one of her demon daggers as a parting gift. She tells Lucifer it’s so that he will always have a piece of her no matter what happens. Maze holds back the tears as she says goodbye to Lucifer. After saying goodbye to Maze, Lucifer returns to Lux to prepare for their beach day. He bumps into Le Mec. Lucifer immediately tries to kill him. Dan tells Lucifer they are bracelet brothers. Lucifer realizes that it’s Dan. Dan tells Lucifer what happened. Lucifer laughs at how Dan got himself stuck in Le Mec’s body. Lucifer apologizes to Dan for not helping him with anything. He truly wants to help Dan with his guilt because he really belongs to heaven. Lucifer tells Dan the truth about August 4th.

[00:45:00] Dan tells Lucifer not to go over to Van Nuys. Lucifer doesn’t want to explain everything to Dan, so he just tells him what he learned about the final moments. He tells Dan no one knows what will happen in the future, so they must spend the present with the people they love and cherish. Since Dan doesn’t have much of a future inside Le Mec’s body, he knows how to spend his final moments. Lucifer goes to Chloe and gives her Charlie’s old clothes. He tells Chloe they could be of some use for Rory when she’s born. Lucifer tells Chloe about his realization and invites her to spend time with Rory. They head to the beach for some family time. At the beach, Lucifer apologizes to Rory. He asks her to take care of Chloe.

[00:49:30] Lucifer tells Rory that he will do everything in his power to stay, but he doesn’t want to leave, nor does he want Rory to blame herself. Lucifer knows the feeling of being abandoned, and he doesn’t want Rory to blame herself for being abandoned. Rory leaves Chloe and Lucifer to give them some alone time. Meanwhile, Dan goes to the science camp to see Trixie. Trixie doesn’t know who he is, so she throws him to the ground with some moves she learned from Maze. He introduces himself as Belios because he can’t think of a better name on such short notice. Dan apologizes to Trixie for leaving her so soon. He apologizes that he can’t become a better role model for her. But Dan finds out that Trixie is so proud of him, and she loves him despite leaving so soon.

[00:56:00] After talking to Trixie, Dan sees a blinding light. He knows it’s his moment to enter heaven. He already cleared his conscience knowing he didn’t leave Trixie in vain. Trixie returns to the science camp, and Le Mec gets his body back. Lucifer and Chloe return to his penthouse around 11 in the evening. They have an hour before August 4th ends. They can’t shake the eerie feeling, so Chloe spends the last hour inside the panic room. Lucifer tries to say goodbye to Chloe, but she doesn’t want to hear it. She just asks Lucifer to be with her because she can’t bear to say goodbye. They hold each other inside the panic room until midnight. The panic room unlocks the door after midnight. They go outside and celebrate victory over fate.

[01:03:00] Lucifer receives a call from Rory. He happily answers it but ends the call in despair. Lucifer spoke to Le Mec. He’s holding Rory hostage. Le Mec is in Van Nuys, on 10^th and Swanson, the same place where Lucifer is supposed to disappear. It seems fate isn’t done yet.
