Lucifer Season 3 Episode 5 Recap – Welcome Back, Charlotte Richards

[00:00:50] Simon entered the pudding factory and greeted Lalo. He told Lalo he needed to make another batch of pudding because the orders had gone up. He also noticed that Lalo had been eating their product non-stop. After a few moments, Simon heard footsteps approaching him as he poured ingredients into the pudding mixture. The alarms went off, and Lalo checked the security camera. He went to the pudding mixture and found Simon dead inside the vat of pudding.

[00:02:15] Chloe sent Lucifer a message to come over to discuss their next case. Lucifer arrived and noticed a swear jar; he commended Chloe for paying Trixie every time she swore. Chloe explained that it was the other way around. Lucifer was still impressed as he thought Chloe was extorting money from Trixie. She explained that she. was trying to stop Trixie from swearing and teach her about accountability. Lucifer and Chloe got into an argument; however, she told him that they didn’t have time to argue since they had a new case. They went to the pudding factory where Ella was already processing Simon’s body.

[00:05:30] Chloe and Lucifer interviewed Lalo, who told them that he had been in the bathroom when it happened. He felt guilty because he thought he could’ve done something. Lucifer was curious as to why there were a lot of security cameras just for pudding. Lalo explained that their pudding was a big success because of Simon’s secret recipe, hence the added security. Chloe requested access to the security footage, but Lalo told her that he couldn’t provide them access and that they needed to talk to the big guy upstairs. Lucifer thought Lalo was referring to God, but he was merely referring to the company owner.

[00:06:10] Adrian Yates arrived at the precinct; however, he hadn’t brought the security tapes that Chloe had requested. Charlotte forbade Adrian to bring the tapes as his attorney. Lucifer thought that Charlotte was still Goddess; however, she was the real Charlotte. She couldn’t remember anything that had happened within the last few months, and she couldn’t let anyone know, or else she might end up in a mental hospital. Lucifer wanted to know why Charlotte had suddenly appeared; she was just there to represent Adrian and his company. Chloe wanted Adrian to cooperate; however, he told Chloe that the killer wasn’t even visible on the security footage that she was requesting. Charlotte explained that providing the security tapes would show the company’s secret recipe, and they would lose millions of dollars in the process.

[00:09:30] Charlotte told Adrian to stay silent as she ended the meeting with Chloe and Lucifer. Lucifer tried to stop her from leaving; however, she didn’t know him. As Charlotte and Adrian were leaving the precinct, Dan saw her and tried to speak with her. Charlotte only said hello; she didn’t remember Dan either. Chloe did some digging and found an ex-employee who still had access to the lab where Simon worked. She went to a commercial shoot in order to speak with Grace Foley. Grace told them that she hadn’t killed Simon because she needed him alive. Grace added that Simon had already offered to sell the secret recipe to her, but before she could agree to the terms, he was killed. After their interview, Chloe noticed that someone was following them.

[00:15:30] Chloe told Lucifer to escort one of the models to her trailer in order to lure out their stalker. They cornered the stalker, but he refused to talk without his lawyer. Lucifer told Chloe that if the stalker was working for Adrian Yates, then his attorney would also be Charlotte Richards. Meanwhile, Dan visited Charlotte’s law firm. Dan wanted answers and closure about his relationship with Charlotte; however, she couldn’t remember anything at all. Dan told her that he was just going to let go and have Lucifer deal with her. Charlotte realized that Lucifer could be the key to remembering what had happened to her in the past months. Lucifer and Chloe returned to the precinct as Chloe received a call from Trixie’s school. Apparently, Lucifer had taught Trixie loophole swear words, like mother flunker.

[00:19:00] Lucifer told Chloe that mother flunker was all Trixie’s idea. Chloe tried to explain why she was teaching Trixie not to swear, but Lucifer was too caught up in the moment of talking with Charlotte again. He entered the interrogation room only to find another lawyer of Charlotte’s firm. He explained to Lucifer that Charlotte was busy at the moment, which was why the firm had sent him on her behalf. Lucifer left the precinct as he had only come to see Charlotte. He returned to Lux, where Charlotte was waiting for him. Lucifer wanted to know why Charlotte had returned; however, before he could finish his sentence, she kissed him.

[00:20:50] Lucifer pushed Charlotte away and grabbed a drink. Charlotte got even more confused as she thought that she was sleeping with Lucifer. She thought that Dan was heartbroken because she had been having an affair with Lucifer. He told Charlotte that they were more like family than friends or lovers. Charlotte explained that she was missing time from her life, months and months of time. She told Lucifer that she felt like she was trapped in hell. Lucifer told Charlotte that she was not crazy and maybe she had gone to hell. Charlotte wanted to avoid going back to hell, so Lucifer told her to avoid the things that she had previously done in her life. Charlotte asked Lucifer if knowingly disrupting a homicide investigation was part of the things that would send her back to hell.

[00:25:20] Ella discovered that Simon was suffering from intense renal failure, and he would’ve died within a few days regardless of whether he was murdered or not. Chloe continued her interrogation with the stalker that they had arrested. He told Chloe that Adrian and Grace were already talking about merging their companies, so there wouldn’t be any competition whatsoever between Adrian and Grace. He explained that whatever threat Simon had posed to Grace was gone along with any motives of murder. Before Chloe could respond, an officer came in to tell her that she was needed in the conference room.

[00:27:30] Charlotte came with Lucifer to the precinct in order to hand over the security footage that Chloe had requested. They watched the footage; however, the killer wasn’t visible within the camera’s range, so they still didn’t know who had killed Simon. Ella noticed the ingredients that Simon was putting inside the pudding and immediately slapped the pudding out of Dan’s hand. Ella explained that the secret ingredients were harmless if they were eaten alone, but when put together, they created a hard to detect toxin. Dan realized that Simon had gotten kidney stones from eating too much pudding. They pieced together the case and found that they had three potential suspects, Adrian, Grace, and the stalker/fixer. Lucifer pointed out that Charlotte represented all three suspects as their legal counsel.

[00:30:10] Charlotte left the room as she realized that providing them the security footage wouldn’t be enough to clean her slate. She wanted to do things on a bigger scale, like joining the Peace Corps or donating everything that she had to charity. She wondered how guilty she would be if she was already defending three guilty people. Before Charlotte left, Ella confronted her about how she had treated Dan. She told Charlotte that she used to see the light in her, but now she only saw darkness. Chloe looked into the accounts and assets of all three people, including the two companies, and it seemed that no one would lose money if the merger failed. She told Lucifer that the one who would lose big was the security guard, Lalo.

[00:31:30] Lalo came to the precinct for interrogation. Chloe and Lucifer explained why they thought he had killed Simon; however, he told them that Simon had gotten wasted with him about a month ago and told him that he was dying. Lalo hadn’t thought that Simon would really kill himself, so he hadn’t told them about it when they first interviewed him. Dan told Chloe that the suicide angle seemed true since Simon had donated all of his belongings a day before he died. Dan added that Simon even donated his pet turtle. Lucifer called Charlotte to tell her that it was a suicide. Charlotte’s assistant told Lucifer that she had already left to meet up with her clients. Lucifer had a feeling that Charlotte was about to do something stupid.

[00:33:45] Charlotte met with the fixer, Adrian, and Grace. She told them that their meeting was personal as she took out a gun and told them that no one was leaving until she found out who had killed Simon. She gave them a little back story as to what had happened to her a few months back. Charlotte told them that her sin was defending sinners and letting them get away with their crimes. No one had told her that the blood on her client’s hands would also be on her hands. The fixer didn’t want to listen to Charlotte anymore. He tried to get up and leave, but Charlotte shot the water tank behind him. Lucifer arrived at the factory and heard the gunshot. Adrian and the fixer told Charlotte that they had silenced Simon by intimidating him. There was no reason to kill Simon after that.

[00:36:20] Lucifer entered the room; he told Charlotte that they were telling the truth. Simon had killed himself, and the three of them were innocent. Charlotte refused to listen to Lucifer; she told him that the innocent people who had eaten the poisonous pudding would die. Lucifer knew that Charlotte only wanted to clear her ledger so that she didn’t end up back in hell. He told her to trust him, so Charlotte surrendered the gun to Lucifer. Charlotte wanted to know what would happen to the three of them; Lucifer showed his phone, and Chloe was on the other line. They had recorded everything during the meeting and arrested Adrian, Grace, and the fixer.

[00:39:00] Dan consoled Charlotte, who apologized for how she had treated him. Charlotte invited Dan to have coffee some other time. Dan accepted as Charlotte left with Lucifer. Back at home, Chloe talked to Trixie regarding her swearing. Chloe explained that swearing made other people feel bad, and she knew that Trixie didn’t want other people to feel bad. She added that she couldn’t make Trixie do the right things all the time and gave her the leeway of knowing when to do the right thing on her own.

[00:40:40] Charlotte invited Lucifer into her apartment. They had a glass of wine since Charlotte had purchased 30 boxes of Merlot while she wasn’t herself. Lucifer told her what she was like back when she was Goddess. Charlotte told him that back then, she wasn’t herself. Lucifer proposed a toast to getting to know each other better. He welcomed Charlotte back to the real world.
