Lucifer Season 1 Episode 9 Recap – A Priest Walks into a Bar

[00:01:00] Lucifer threw a party and waited for the pizza to arrive. He took the pizza and paid the delivery guy, but before he left Lucifer asked him if his deliveries ever ended up in sex like in porn. The guy declined; he told Lucifer that none of his deliveries ended in sex. Lucifer invited him in for the party and handed him over to three ladies all of whom were named Brittany. The next day Lucifer found himself lying on Linda’s couch asking her why he didn’t join the Brittanies to party. Linda told Lucifer that he was probably lonely, but he disagreed. Lucifer told Linda that he was never alone, his bed was never cold, and that he partied whenever he desired. Linda told Lucifer that being alone and being lonely are two different things.

[00:03:30] Linda added that he was lonely because he wasn’t surrounded by people he considered as friends. She asked Lucifer if he ever considered Chloe as a friend; he responded that he didn’t know what they were. Lucifer returned to Lux to find Maze wanting to speak with him, she told Lucifer that someone needed a favor from him. Lucifer spoke to a man who, to his surprise, is a priest. The priest needed a favor from Lucifer to help a young boy in need, but Lucifer declined. Lucifer didn’t want to involve himself with those who served his father. The next day, Lucifer invited Chloe to investigate as to why the priest came to him. They visited Lenny Arietta only to find him dead inside his office.

[00:08:15] Lucifer and Chloe interviewed a few people from the youth center. Everyone vouched for Lenny being a good person. Connor vouched that Father Frank couldn’t have killed Lenny. He admitted that Frank is a bit annoying; however, he just couldn’t see him being a murderer since he’s a priest. Chloe and Lucifer did their research and found that Frank had a record. Chloe talked to Dan and invited him over for dinner to talk before Chloe and Lucifer visited Frank. Malcolm chose Dan to become his new partner in order to keep an eye on him. He also instructed Dan to go down to evidence and borrow something for him.

[00:14:50] Lucifer and Chloe went to church to speak with Father Frank; Chloe went ahead to look for Frank when Lucifer spotted a lady going to a confessional. He pretended to be the priest in order to find out the lady’s secret. She told Lucifer that she had been having lustful thoughts about her husband’s limo driver. Lucifer told her to act on her desires since she can always go to confession and be forgiven; he added that if she was faithful, she wouldn’t have lustful thoughts towards the driver. The lady gave in to temptation as Chloe opened the confessional and stopped Lucifer. Meanwhile, Amenadiel visited Malcolm to remind him of his purpose. Amenadiel resurrected him for his plan, Malcolm agreed in order to escape hell. He assured Amenadiel that everything was going according to plan.

[00:17:50] Chloe and Lucifer asked Frank if he had an alibi. He told them that he was at confession. The lady Lucifer spoke to earlier was the same lady that Frank had spoken to earlier. He admitted that he spoke to Lenny this morning; however, he only punched Lenny. Lucifer didn’t believe Frank, so Chloe invited him to the station to provide a statement. As they exited the church, someone drove by and started shooting. Chloe, Lucifer and Frank ducked to avoid getting shot. Chloe followed the vehicle in order to get the plate number. Police arrived and locked the church down; Chloe informed Frank that no one was hurt during the shooting. Chloe knew that Frank was hiding something, so he confessed. He lied about Connor; he was already involved with Lenny’s drug trade; however, there was another guy who wanted to take over, The Spider.

[00:21:30] Chloe wanted to place Frank under police protection, but he didn’t want to leave the church. Lucifer offered for Frank to stay with him until they resolved everything. Frank told them how he knew Connor. He and Connor’s father were in a band, and they were involved in a car accident ten years ago. Connor’s parents died along with Frank’s daughter. He was at an all-time low when he found faith and became a priest. It was then that he crossed paths with Connor. Chloe left to answer a call while Lucifer and Frank continued their conversation. Frank showed Lucifer how he played the piano, and eventually, they played together. Chloe returned to tell Lucifer that she got a lead to the Spider.

[00:27:00] Chloe and Lucifer went to a skate park where they spotted a drug deal; it was Connor along with his friend Nikki. Connor spotted Chloe and started firing to create a commotion, Chloe and Lucifer chased them; however, they escaped. Chloe received the traffic camera footage showing Connor driving the stolen vehicle that was in the drive-by earlier. They showed the footage to Father Frank who insisted that Connor wasn’t The Spider. Frank and Lucifer continued their conversation when Frank received a phone call and left. Chloe came back and asked Lucifer where Frank was; however, he didn’t know. They asked Maze, who told them that Frank left to meet Connor. They got to the church in time as Connor held Frank at gunpoint while another guy was convincing him to shoot Frank. The Spider was none other than Eric Doyle, counselor of the youth center.

[00:33:30] Chloe and Lucifer slowly went to the altar. Frank tried to talk Connor out of shooting him. Connor told Eric that he couldn’t shoot Frank. Eric pulled out his pistol while Frank pushed Connor out the way and took a bullet for him. Chloe shot Eric to disable him as Lucifer ran to aid Frank. Lucifer did his best to keep Frank alive; however, he didn’t last long. Lucifer went to vent his anger out on Eric, but Chloe stopped him. The police took Connor into custody as he provided them all the information they needed to put Eric behind bars. Lucifer went home and shouted to the heavens in an attempt to speak with his father. He blamed him for the death of Frank, who didn’t deserve to die as punishment for his sins.

[00:38:25] Dan and Chloe had dinner together, but she didn’t feel up to it at the moment and asked Dan to talk some other time. Chloe visited Lucifer to console him as they played the piano together. Amenadiel on the other hand visited Malcolm to rush things along. He made Malcolm remember his 30 seconds in hell and threatened to return him to hell if he didn’t cooperate. Malcolm showed him the gun that Dan pulled out of evidence. It was untraceable, so he could kill anyone without the police tracing it back to him. Amenadiel ordered him to kill Lucifer.
