Lucifer Season 1 Episode 5 Recap – Sweet Kicks

[00:01:00] Lucifer and Maze attended a fashion show organized by Benny Choi. Lucifer approved of the avant-garde fashion design of Benny. Maze pointed out that Benny’s brand isn’t about clothes but high-end shoes. According to Maze, each pair cost around six grand, which she approves being the mistress of excess. One of the models brandished a sword and pointed it at Lucifer. He liked the gesture, and as a result, he went backstage to look for the model to engage in sexual activity; however, gunshots rang across the venue as soon as Benny went on stage. Everyone panicked as the shots continued; Benny made a run for it. Maze informed Lucifer that they needed to leave for his safety. As they exited the venue, they saw a dead girl lying on the ground.

[00:03:50] Chloe and Dan interviewed the mother of the dead girl. She snuck out of their house to attend the fashion show. Chloe vowed to find the person behind the girl’s death. Dan wanted Chloe to stay away from the case seeing that things could get bloody. Chloe told Dan that Lucifer will no longer be an issue as he’s out of her life; however, Dan pointed at her desk where Lucifer is mingling with a police officer. Chloe wanted to know why Lucifer is at the station. He told Chloe that he needed to discuss a shooting with her boss. Chloe pleaded that she could lose her badge if he told anyone about what happened. Before Lucifer could respond, Olivia called him over to her office. Lucifer told Olivia that he wanted to be part of the action to explore his mortality.

[00:06:00] Olivia disagreed with Lucifer and told him that exploring mortality is not her agenda. Lucifer used his powers to find out what Olivia desired. She wanted to be the first female chief of police; however, she needed the support of the minority communities. Lucifer offered her a deal; he will get her all the support that she needed as long as she agreed to allow Lucifer to assist in police matters. Olivia agreed and made Lucifer a liaison on the current case. Chloe wanted to speak with Lucifer, but he was already mingling with the police officer from earlier.

[00:08:00] Lucifer and Chloe left the station and went back to his place. To Chloe’s surprise, Lucifer personally knew Benny, who brought his pet pig named Pig Diddy. Chloe asked Benny a few questions; however, he refused to answer because he isn’t a snitch. Lucifer told Benny that he needed to return the favor owed him by answering Chloe’s questions. Seeing that he didn’t have any choice, he provided Chloe with details. Benny told them that his assistant Hector got into a fight with some Latin Kings gang members the night of the shooting. Hector told them that the gang members were upset they weren’t able to attend the fashion show. Chloe wanted to know why Benny didn’t mention this when they interrogated him earlier. Benny admitted that he was part of the Asian Boyz gang back in the day, and he couldn’t snitch on the Latin Kings for his safety.

[00:11:00] Hector gave Chloe two names, Diego and Dani. Chloe gave Benny her card and told him to call her if they have more information. Lucifer invited Chloe for a couple of drinks at a cop bar named the Paddock Lounge. Chloe didn’t want to drink at a bar where everyone hates her. Lucifer insisted they visit the bar because he needed a drink to dull the pain of his leg. Chloe finally agreed as long as Lucifer shut up about his leg. They arrived at the bar, and immediately, people start staring at Chloe and calling her names. Lucifer noticed the negative vibes, but Chloe insisted that he made an order. While Lucifer placed an order, Chloe asked him about the favors that he gave out. Lucifer explained that he gave out favors for people to get what they want in exchange for what he wanted.

[00:13:30] Chloe and Lucifer continued their conversation when a guy called Chloe a bitch. Lucifer wanted to know why he called her a bitch. Chloe told Lucifer about the Palmetto case. The guy who approached them is Anthony Paolucci, partner of Malcolm Graham, the cop who got shot during the Palmetto case. Anthony thinks Malcolm is a hero; however, Chloe thought otherwise. Lucifer called Chloe a snitch and told her that it’s the reason why everyone hated her. Chloe responded that she followed her gut and now everyone acts like she committed a crime. Lucifer understood everything; however, it still didn’t give Anthony any right to be rude. He walked over to Anthony and punched him in the face. Chloe didn’t know what to do, so she just dragged Lucifer out of the bar before a fight broke out.

[00:15:00] Maze arranged a meeting with Amenadiel. She wanted to go back to hell however Amenadiel needed something against Lucifer. The problem is that Lucifer no longer confided in Maze; instead, he confided with Dr. Martin. Amenadiel visited Dr. Martin and introduced himself as Dr. Canaan. Back at Lux, Maze tried to talk some sense into Lucifer. He loved the thrill of getting hurt and the thought of becoming mortal; however, Maze disagreed. Lucifer thought Maze was jealous of Chloe. Maze responded that she isn’t jealous of any mortal woman and the time may come that she will no longer save Lucifer; however, he disagreed. Lucifer pointed out that Maze existed to protect him whether she liked it or not. Maze bumped into Dan as she left Lucifer.

[00:19:00] Dan confronted Lucifer. He scolded him for his behavior with Anthony earlier at the bar. Dan convinced Anthony not to press charges for Chloe’s sake. He also advised Lucifer that Chloe is the mother of his child and he needed to take care of her to ensure her safety. Lucifer agreed, so Dan left. The next day, Chloe and Lucifer headed over to Latin Kings’ turf to look for Diego and Dani. Chloe locked Lucifer inside the police car so that he won’t do anything drastic. Chloe knocked on the door a couple of times before she heard someone scream inside. She decided to kick the door down; however, it was Lucifer that caused Dani to scream. Chloe wanted to know how he got out of the car. Dani wanted to sue Lucifer for harassment; Chloe agreed, but she needed answers regarding the shooting.

[00:22:30] Diego and Dani only wanted to attend the fashion show to score some kicks. Dani added that Paola is Diego’s cousin, which is why he mourned her death. He promised to take Paola to watch Benny’s show; however, since only one more person could enter, they gave their spot to her. Diego cried as he reminisced what happened to Paola. Chloe and Lucifer also got more information regarding Benny. Dani and Diego told them that if anyone had a grudge against Benny, it would the Yellow Viper. He and Benny go way back; however, Viper took the fall while Benny got rich and famous. Chloe apologized on behalf of Lucifer and decided to warn Benny regarding Viper’s return. As they were about to leave, Chloe received a text from Benny claiming that someone died.

[00:24:40] Chloe and Lucifer arrived at Benny’s place and found a puddle of blood. They found Benny beside Pig Diddy. Chloe asked if he called because someone killed the pig. Benny didn’t know who to call, stating that there isn’t a 911 hotline for pets. Lucifer asked if he was aware that Viper had been released from prison. Benny didn’t know Viper had been released. Chloe told him that they would place a squad car outside his house to keep him safe. She made a call to Viper’s parole officer to track him down.

[00:26:00] Amenadiel asked Linda out to grab a drink. Amenadiel claimed that he needed to talk about one of his patients. Linda agreed to grab one drink to discuss their troubling patients. Meanwhile, Chloe and Lucifer headed over to a community center where the Yellow Viper was staying according to his parole officer. Chloe asked Lucifer if the favor he gave Benny included a get out of jail card. She added that Paola would still be alive if he didn’t give Benny a favor. Lucifer disagreed; he told Chloe that people needed to take responsibility for their bad behavior, and he didn’t have anything to do with their decision. They found Viper teaching an art class to a couple of kids. Chloe called him over to ask a few questions, but he declined.

[00:29:00] After their conversation, Diego and Dani arrived along with their crew, Diego wanted justice for the death of Paola. He was convinced that Viper killed Paola, Chloe did her best to de-escalate the situation; however, they already made up their mind. Chloe and Lucifer were trapped in between the gang and Viper. Lucifer stalled in order for Viper to escape along with the kids attending his class. Dani noticed that Viper disappeared, Diego didn’t care as he vent out his anger by killing Lucifer. The lights went out and Maze went to work, disabling everyone including Diego. Chloe punched Dani in the face to knock her out, Maze approached Lucifer to inform him that she saved his ass. Dan arrived along with paramedics as the police arrested everyone involved, including Viper, who had a gun that matched the bullet they found at Benny’s show.

[00:35:00] Chloe and Lucifer escort Viper to the police station. Lucifer knew that Chloe was thinking of something; however, Chloe told him that it was nothing. Lucifer used his powers to find out the truth from Viper. Viper pointed out that if he hated Benny, he wouldn’t go to his show and shoot him only to miss. Lucifer and Chloe realized that someone faked the gunshots during Benny’s show. Chloe and Lucifer brought Viper to Benny to confront him. Lucifer called Benny out for lying to him because he didn’t mention that Viper would be imprisoned once Lucifer saved his ass.

[00:37:00] Chloe on the other hand spoke with Hector, she remembered his tattoo which meant that he’s part of the Marines sniper unit. Hector confessed to everything, he wanted to testify against Benny. Hector shared that Benny instructed him to fire into the crowd to cause a commotion and plant the gun inside Viper’s bag; however, since someone died, they tried to pin it on the Latin Kings knowing that everything will eventually lead back to Viper. Chloe arrested Hector while Benny tried to pick a fight with Viper, but Lucifer stopped him and as punishment showed him his true self. Olivia addressed the press on how they solved the case of Paola Cortez.

[00:40:00] Lucifer informed Chloe that he’s an official civilian consultant for the LAPD. Chloe didn’t protest. She didn’t know what motives Lucifer may have; however, she wanted to keep Lucifer close in order to uncover more of his secrets. Lucifer asked Chloe if she wanted to bring him home to consummate their partnership. Chloe answered by leaving Lucifer behind as she drove off.
