The X-Men spin-off movie “Gambit” has been in development since 2014, but this year we’re seeing some progress. Remy LeBeau’s debut in the big screen is now closer than ever, with Channing Tatum set to portray the card-playing mutant. Joining Tatum for the lead role is “Master of Sex’s” Lizzy Caplan—albeit in a mystery female lead role.
Variety reports that Caplan has officially signed on for the movie, and fans are now thinking that she is about to fill the role of the recently-announced slot for Bella Donna Boudreaux, Remy/Gambit’s love interest in the comics. Although not confirmed, her casting announcement does sound like she is playing Bella Donna’s part.
Even before we got the news of a standalone “Gambit” movie, though, the film has encountered a couple of shakeups since 2014. Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt were both tapped by FOX to work on the script and initial treatment for the X-Men spin-off, but never saw the light of day, with Liman departing soon after. The directorial duties were then handed over to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise director Gore Verbinski.
Channing Tatum, on the other hand, never ceased to say that he will play “Gambit” in the movie. It’s an impressive display determination for the actor since he’s been signed on for the movie ever since it was announced. We have yet to receive a confirmation from FOX regarding Caplan’s character, but it’s exciting news nonetheless. It’s not often that you come across a solo movie for one of the most underrated characters of the X-Men universe.
“Gambit” is slated for a February 14th, 2019 release.
