Live-Action Cast of Scott Pilgrim Returning for the Anime

It’s been more than ten years since we got Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and now Netflix is set to adapt the original comics into an anime. Just in, they’ve announced who’s coming back to reprise their roles; and it’s everyone from the film.
Check this out:
Besides Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead coming back to voice Scott and Ramona, they’ve also gotten major actors like Chris Evans, Brie Larson, and Brandon Routh to reprise their roles. Even Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick, and Aubrey Plaza are coming back to play their supporting characters from the film.
Granted, the film was a big compression of the original comics from Brian Lee O’Malley with each Evil Ex having their own significant arc (just like an actual manga). With the anime, we should expect the series to adapt the manga a lot closer; with the more bombastic finale with Gideon Graves revealing he’s encapsulated all of his other exes and is keeping them under his mind control powers.
There are also several arcs for other characters that didn’t make it in the film. For one, Scott’s band member Stephen Stills gets a boyfriend at the end of the story (he dates Plaza’s character Julie on-and-off in the comic).
I was a huge fan of the movie when it came out, but after reading the manga, it made me realize that there was actually a lot more story that they weren’t able to cover; so it’s great that Scott Pilgrim is getting an anime, which would feel like the more direct adaptation.
I just hope they try to make things different from the film a bit, because I don’t really need a frame-by-frame recreation.
No release date has been announced for the Scott Pilgrim anime.
