Hard rock group Linkin Park has just announced their first concert since frontman Chester Bennington’s death in July. The band will perform a one-off “celebration” of Bennington’s life on October 27 in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl.
This is the kind of heartwarming news that would make this hard and emotional event a little easier for the band and guests involved. The Chester Bennington Memorial Concert funds will also go to one organization that’s very close to the late singer’s heart.
The news also comes the same time as Linkin Park dropped a new music video for “One More Light,” a song from their latest album of the same title. It’s an emotional video that shows Bennington surrounded by his fans as he reaches to the crowd and some shots of him backstage with his friends. Mike Shinoda, co-founder of the band, went on to say that the song was “written with the intention of sending love to those who lost someone. We now find ourselves on the receiving end.”
Linkin Park on celebrating late frontman’s life
According to the band’s press release, they will be joined by a number of artists for “an unforgettable night of music to honor the man that touched the lives of so many around the world.” The band also plans to donate the concert’s fees to Music For Relief’s One More Light Fund—a charity founded by Bennington and the Linkin Park in 2004 during the Indian Ocean tsunami. The One More Light Fund was established following the musician’s death this year.
In an interview with KROQ Monday morning, Shinoda talked about the upcoming concert by saying, “I know it’s going to be a rollercoaster of emotion, but when we talk about this, when we’re focusing on the show, it’s really about celebrating life.” He also spoke about the tributes of his fellow musicians to Bennington, including Coldplay’s Chris Martin, rapper JAY-Z and 30 Seconds To Mars’ Jared Leto. “It’s been two months since Chester passed away. The fans have been incredible — I don’t think we could have ever expected such an outpouring of love and all these tributes,” Shinoda said. “There have literally been tributes all over the world for two straight months.… The guys and Chester’s family were deeply moved by all this stuff.”
Tickets for the concert will go on sale Friday, September 22nd at 12 PM, PT.
