After Luca and Turning Red went straight to streaming, Pixar finally had another theatrical release with the Chris Evans-fuelled Lightyear. After its run last June, the Toy Story spinoff is now set to come out on the streaming platform Disney+.
Here’s the announcement for Lightyear (along with other properties) coming to Disney+:
Here’s the official description for the film:
Legendary space ranger Buzz Lightyear embarks on an intergalactic adventure alongside ambitious recruits Izzy, Mo, Darby, and his robot companion, Sox. As this motley crew tackles their toughest mission yet, they must learn to work together as a team to escape the evil Zurg and his dutiful robot army that are never far behind.
Admittedly, the film wasn’t the biggest Pixar hit, but it’s still a pretty fun ride. I guess when it comes to Pixar films, adults kind of expect something for them in the movie as well. Lightyear was more of a sci-fi space adventure for kids.
The movie definitely sets up a sequel, and hopefully Lightyear manages to get one. Chris Evans just absolutely nails the role, and he has a likeable cast surrounding him. I’m pretty sure Pixar and Disney would also want to bank in on the Sox merchandise because that robot cat definitely stole the show.
Fingers crossed we get a sequel announced soon, and it would be great if we could get some more connections to Toy Story—or maybe some other Pixar property. I’d be down.
Lightyear is now available on Disney+.
