After Lady Gaga’s Hold My Hand in Top Gun: Maverick, it’s Rihanna’s turn to release a single to hype up a blockbuster movie. We’ve known for a while that she’ll be providing a track for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and we can now listen to it.
Check out Lift Me Up by Rihanna:
With the film dealing with the death of Chadwick Boseman, director Ryan Coogler says that it was Boseman who apparently got a mega star like Rihanna to provide the music for the film. According to the BBC, Coogler said, “Honestly, I think it was Chad… A lot of improbable things needed to happen for it to come through and Rihanna was very clear that she did that for him.”
Coogler also adds that the themes of the film could have very much influenced Rihanna’s decision to collaborate. He adds:
“We knew [Rihanna] was at a point in her life as well where she was focusing on different things – focused on business, motherhood, which is a big theme in our film. We were holding out hope that maybe it could work out and boy did it for this song.”
The loss of Boseman has definitely been huge, and it’s still being felt by a lot of the fandom today. With Wakanda Forever though, fans are hoping that he gets a proper sendoff and we get a clear idea of where the franchise will move on without him.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever comes to theaters on Nov. 11.
