April is almost over, and we’re less than a month away from the release of the live-action Little Mermaid. Disney can only do so much to hype up the film, and we have a new teaser that gives us a new look at Ursula, Ariel’s adventures on land, and more.
Check this out:
While the chase with the giant shark, the deal with Ursula, and the confrontation with Triton all happen in the original movie, it looks like the film will actually expand on the original tale, with us getting to follow Ariel as she explores the human world; there’s even said to be a new song written for the sequence called For the First Time written by original composer Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Admittedly, these live-action Disney movies haven’t been critical hits, but they do make a lot of money, and I guess Disney needs these once in a while to fun the more experimental outings.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The Little Mermaid swims into theaters on May 26.
