After what seemed like forever, David Haller (Dan Stevens) is finally face-to-face with the Shadow King (Navid Negahban) in “Chapter 10” of FX’s “Legion.” Through the plea of future Syd (Rachel Keller), David agrees to help Farouk. David as a double agent and Syd as a cat really has this episode going.
Leading a double life
Time has passed since “Chapter 9.” David is working with Division 3 not just to stop but also help Farouk. Syd of the future contacted David to assist his nemesis is finding his body. The reason for that, no one knows.
The episode begins with David, Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), and Oliver (Jemaine Clement) on a carousel, talking about how they will help the puppet master. He is very adamant about hurting no one.
After his trip to the astral plane, David is in a van with Ptonomy and the present Syd. In front of them were three androids, they called them Vermillion. They stop in a field that also looks like the astral plane where Farouk meets with everyone. But it was a trap. Lenny and Oliver are back at the camp, killing soldiers left and right, even turning one into a pig.
Lenny and Oliver had some fun with the Cary (Bill Irwin) and Kerry (Amber Midthunder). They played mind tricks on them and in the end, had some difficulty fusing back. They ended up with Cary’s hand sticking out of Kerry’s chest.
When Melanie (Jean Smart), Syd and David talk to androids, they find out where Farouk’s body is likely placed. It’s hidden away with a Migo monk. The Vermillion also puts pressure on David when they say that there is a 63% chance that he’s been lying to them, about everything.
Knowing what the future holds
Male Cary’s hand isn’t in female Cary’s chest anymore, but they can’t separate. So when David asked them (actually tricked them) for help to use the amplification chamber, they hit a few bumps with female Cary only listening to male Cary’s voice inside her. But in the end, David got to talk to future Syd.
What he found out gave him mixed emotions. One, when he asked future Syd if he’s dead in the future, she says, “It’s complicated.” But on the other hand, a week from then, he bashed Farouk’s brains in.
But Syd elaborates on why she told David to help locate the body. Apparently, the timeline where Syd is from is not looking good. Something worse than Farouk is out there, and it kills everyone. So they need the Shadow King to help them.
After all that they’ve done to each other, Clark (Hamish Linklater) and David talk to each other. Clark suspects David is tricking them and dodges questions left and right. But that didn’t do a very good job. Clark still thinks David is putting up a front.
So who’s got the power in ‘Legion?’
David finally meets the real face of Amahl Farouk. He’s been communicating through Farouk’s puppets, Lenny and Oliver.
Through the crystal orb, David is brought to the astral plane. He rings the bell and out comes his greatest enemy, cocky, sinister and arrogant, in a fortune teller booth. They talk about respect, power, and Jesus.
The two fight to see who has more power. First, they’re in wrestling singlets and, of course, wrestle. Then they transform into samurais, tanks, and back in singlets. Each time, they try to dominate each other. Back in the booth, David tells the Shadow King that he will help him find his body under a condition that no one else gets hurt.
“Legion” continues next Tuesday, April 17th, with “Chapter 11” at 10/9c on FX.
