TheWrap reports that Legendary Entertainment acquired the rights for the 1984 film ‘The Toxic Avenger‘ last Monday. Also, they have a lineup for producers of the said film. The list includes Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz of Troma Entertainment as well as Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter from Legendary.
Film Origins
When a local health club mop boy falls into toxic waste, Tromaville’s new hero is born: The Toxic Avenger. Starring Mitch Cohen, the film became a cult classic throughout the ’80s. Also, the film is widely known for its funny script, low-quality FX, and lousy acting. Despite these, the film still became a fan favorite. Often, most viewers watched it for the crazy experience.
Toxic Crusaders
The TV show Toxic Crusaders follows the plot of the film and its sequels, but here, Toxie (Rodger Bumpass) teams up with other mutants. First, No Zone (Paul Eiding) known for radioactive sneezing. Then, the plant-controller Major Disaster (Ed Gilbert). And then, Head-Banger (Hal Rayle, John Mariano), a fusion of two unlikely people. Lastly, Junkyard (Gregg Berger), a dog-hobo hybrid. Together, the team fights crime while advocating for environmental safety.
The Toxic Avenger
Introducing Toxie to the new generation is quite timely. As the world continues to struggle with environmental problems, bringing a hero like The Toxic Avenger back to life will be a great help at spreading the advocacy of caring for the environment.
