Matrix Resurrections may have brought back Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, but they didn’t bring back some classic cast members like the OG Morpheus, Laurence Fishburne.
Talking to Variety, Fishburne was asked about what he thought about the fourth Matrix film, to which he replies, “It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, and it wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be; but I thought Carrie-Anne and Keanu really did their thing.” When he was asked if he missed being part of the franchise, Fishburne replied, “No, not really.”

People can forget, even if Morphus’ character mostly does exposition for the films, Fishburne also had to do a lot of crazy martial arts work. Though Reeves is fine in his older age jumping around and doing kicks, it looks like Fishburne is fine just playing the strict authority figure in films from Man of Steel to Ant-Man and the Wasp.
When Matrix Resurrections came out, it was critically panned by critics and was considered to be a terrible follow-up. If you ask me, it essentially follows up on the vague, artsy ending of the original trilogy. I guess I do like how they decided to give more importance to the character of Trinity, as compared to her role in the original films where she’s kind of just there to keep pushing Neo to pursue his destiny or whatever it was.
We don’t know if The Matrix has a future moving forward, but we’ll probably have to wait a couple more years for a follow-up.
