‘La La Land’ Director Damien Chazelle Team Up For Netflix Musical Series ‘The Eddy’

Another musical hit from Damien Chazelle? Netflix recently announced that the Academy Award-winning “La La Land” director will join upcoming series “The Eddy” as a director and executive producer. The musical drama centers around a club, its owner, and the house band at the heart of beautiful, chaotic Paris. Chazelle will direct two episodes of the eight-episode Netflix Original. He will also be working with other musical veterans on the ambitious project.

Jack Thorne and Glen Ballard Join ‘The Eddy’

Besides Chazelle, Netflix has also lined up some veteran writers, composers, and producers for “The Eddy.” Among them: acclaimed writer Jack Thorne, joining as a scriptwriter. Known for his work on “National Treasure” and “This Is England,” Thorne has won the BAFTA award five times and the Olivier award once. Under his direction, “The Eddy” follows in the tradition of other Netflix shows like “Narcos” by including multilingual dialogue. Netflix reports that French, English and Arabic speakers will feature in the musical drama.

Glen Ballard and Alan Poul also join Chazelle and Thorne as a composer and co-producer, respectively. Ballard, a six-time Grammy winner, will write original music for the series. His work has been credited in numerous hit records, including Michael Jackson’s Bad. Poul, an Emmy winner who worked on “The Newsroom” and “Six Feet Under,” joins Chazelle as a co-producer.
