George Clooney’s first directorial effort on Netflix is slowly putting together quite a star-studded cast. And the most recent addition to the film is Catch 22’s Kyle Chandler. He will be starring alongside Felicity Jones and Clooney in Good Morning, Midnight, a Netflix sci-fi drama.
The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world that features parallel stories of a scientist and an astronaut, one trying to contact the other while the other attempts to return to Earth. Clooney will be taking on the role of Augustine, a solitary scientist in the Arctic who races to make contact with the crew of the spaceship Aether as they also try to find their way home. First reported by Deadline, Chandler will be playing Mitchell, an American scientist. Jones’ role in the film remains undisclosed as of yet.
Clooney will be working with the script penned by The Revenant screenwriter Mark L. Smith, based on Lily Brooks-Dalton’s 2016 novel Good Morning, Midnight. Aside from directing and starring in the film, Clooney will also be producing together with Grant Heslov under their Smokehouse Pictures banner, alongside Anonymous Content and Syndicate Entertainment.
Post Catch-22 Kyle Chandler Projects
This new project brings Chandler and Clooney together again after previously working on Hulu’s Catch 22 miniseries. Chandler played the lead opposite Christopher Abbott, while Clooney co-directed and executive produced with Heslov under the same banner. Clooney was originally set to play Abbott but the role ultimately went to Chandler as Clooney took up a supporting character role to focus on directing and producing. In addition to that, they also worked together in Ben Affleck’s Oscar-winning movie Argo, where Clooney was a producer on.
Some of Chandler’s other most-notable roles include his stint as Coach Eric Taylor in Friday Nights Lights. He also starred in another astronaut role in director Damien Chazelle’s First Man, featuring Neil Armstrong’s landing on the moon played by Ryan Gosling. His most recent big-screen appearance was in Godzilla: King of the Monsters as Mark Russell. He will be reprising the role in next year’s Godzilla vs Kong.
Kyle Chandler is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
