'Krypton' Season 1, Episode 8 'Savage Night' Recap: Brainiac's Little Message [SPOILERS]

With all the action, lies, and mysteries being thrown around right now, how could anyone remember that “Krypton’s” finale is drawing ever nearer? We’re one penultimate episode away! But before we all get carried away, let’s focus on tonight’s episode “Savage Night.”

From one coup to another, Krypton’s heroes aren’t stopping anytime soon in saving their planet from Brainiac. However, with the Voice of Rao’s pyrotechnics, Seg’s (Cameron Cuffe) group has lost all hope to rally the Kandorians to their side. Now, they have to turn to other support systems, even if it means risking the fragile trust they’ve built among themselves. No matter their success, however, tonight’s episode is aptly titled “Savage Night” for the hopeful delusions it holds.

Adam’s Story Unfolds

We hop back to the first time Adam (Shaun Sipos) meets Seg and gives him the sandstone that’ll change his life. After Adam seemingly gets constipated, he’s swept to a fluorescent, sterile tube. A disembodied voice he calls Sardath scolds him. But, Adam explains he did what he had to do to save Superman. Sardath tries to pass on the job to someone else but, Adam insists on following his destiny to become a hero and save Superman.

Back to the present, Adam intercepts Kem (Rasmus Hardiker) on his daily lurking. They get into a little banter, and Adam reveals his plan to kill General Zod. (Honestly, who else thinks these two are an old married couple?) However, Kem manages to stop Adam on his plans in exchange for Seg hearing him out.

On his way back to the pub, Kem glimpses someone scurrying about in the garbage. He approaches the stranger and finds Sevy, one of the Voice’s (former) acolytes. Sevy assures him that Ona is safe. In addition to that, she also reveals that Brainiac’s sentry is using the Genesis chamber where all the unborn Kandorians are to recharge himself. After Kem brings the news back to the group, they realize that Brainiac is wiping out the future generation of Kandor.

The group plans to strike the Voice (Blake Ritson) when he is in his energy-sucking trance. But, to hijack his connection with the Red Shard, his loyal guards, they need some sort of sample to work with. Lyta (Georgina Campbell) suggests retrieving Dev’s (Aaron Pierre) body and using his connection. On the other hand, General Zod throws in the manpower assistance of Black Zero.

The Recruitment Starts

Jayna and Dru/ General Zod (Colin Salmon) team up to get Black Zero’s assistance. When they get to Black Zero’s headquarters, they are put face to face with the ruthless Jax-Ur (Hannah Waddingham). Black Zero’s leader welcomes the two Zod’s with her speech about Kandor being a bastion of equality. Dru speaks after Jax-Ur’s little speech and is greeted by a vicious swipe of her knife to his cheek. She takes a bite at his recent behavior but, he comes prepared to explain who the real enemy is: Brainiac.

On the other hand, Kem backs out of Seg and Lyta’s team to find Ona (Tipper Seifert-Cleveland). Seg immediately agrees but, is left with no choice but to take Nyssa (Wallis Day) in exchange. Lyta bristles at the thought of it but, Nyssa cleverly taunts her into agreeing.

The three embark on the most awkward skimmer ride in the history of Krypton. As Seg awkwardly tries to find some air through the women’s heat, Lyta asks Nyssa where she expected their little coup to end. Surprisingly, instead of Nyssa and her father standing tall at the end of it, Nyssa replies that it was supposed to be Seg and her.

Later on, in their search in the outlands, Lyta bumps into a zombified-like version of Dev. He falls unconscious shortly after asking for help. And they drag him back to the skimmer while a hooded figure watches from the shadows. They retreat to the Fortress of Solitude where Val (Ian McElhinney) stabilizes his condition.

Nyssa, on the other hand, marvels at the mere existence of the place. She looks to Seg not only to save Krypton but, to also save the life of their unborn son, Jor-El.

Adam Makes A Deal With Daron For Krypton’s Destruction

Adam glimpses Kem in his search for Ona. When he confronts him, Kem explodes in frustration. In a split second, Adam decides to help Kem. Meanwhile, Dru and Jayna close a deal with Jax-Ur in exchange for Daron-Vex (Elliot Cowan). Dru hits up Seg about the decision, but Seg passes it on to Nyssa. Nyssa replies with a strong affirmative and seals the deal altogether.

With Adam’s help, Kem finds Ona, and they have a sweet, little reunion. Kem tries to warn Ona about the Voice but, she interprets it as fear of the divine. They’re interrupted by the arrival of the Sagitarii. And Kem whisks Ona into one last embrace and assures her that she can always come back. In Kem’s frustration, he also sends Adam away. (This is honestly one of the most heartbreaking moments for our Strange fellow here.)

Adam goes back to his memories in Sardath’s presence. The voice refuses to grant his wish and questions Adam’s commitment but, a female voice, Alanna’s, speaks up for him. She points out that he’s never cared about anything that much before, especially not her. Then, they whisk Adam back to Krypton.

Back to present day, Adam climbs up to Daron’s office in the guilds. He makes a deal with the chief magistrate to give information about the foreboding rebellion attack in exchange for Seg-El delivered to him.

Meanwhile, back in the Fortress, Dev wakes up. Lyta tells him about the procedure they could do to sever his connection with Brainiac. However, the said procedure might kill him. In his mute state, Dev agrees.

Krypton Gets A Bitter Taste of Victory

Before the battle, Jayna and Dru spend some quality time together. Dru explains how Kal-El’s powers worked on Earth through radiation. It leads Jayna to question how Dru also managed to survive Krypton’s destruction. Dru reveals that he was in the Phantom Zone, a prison that defies laws of gravities and time. He was sent there for attempting a coup in Kryptonopolis by the person he respected the most, Jor-El.

Later on, Daron tries to warn the Voice while he is in his trance. However, he is too late. Seg and Dru take the lead into the chamber as Jayna, and the rest of Black Zero is left to deal with the Sagitarii. In a moment of badassery, Jayna charges the Sagitarii solo head-on.

Meanwhile, Dev starts convulsing. Lyta demands that Val find a way and the old man cheekily replies that he’s an El and they always find a way. Back at the battle, Dru gets tired of waiting and shoots one of the Red Shard. At the same moment, Val manages to sever all their neural connections with the Voice, and they all drop to the floor.

The Voice awakens, and Dru fights it head-on. Seg stops Daron from escaping with a blow to the nose. Seg charges the Voice but, he is knocked out flat with one swipe. Just as the Voice dangles Dru in thin air, Jayna shoots the Voice on the chest. He lets go of Dru and topples down the endless Genesis chamber.

‘Through Fire We Are Reborn’

Unlike Dev who wakes up free of Brainiac’s brand, Daron wakes up in Black Zero’s captivity. Nyssa greets him with her forgiveness. And with a tear running down her cheek, she bids him farewell. Dru reaffirms his deal with Ur. She agrees to lend him Black Zero until the Voice’s body is found. Then she reminds him of the gaping power seats that they’d soon have to fill up.

Back in the guilds, the Voice comes back to Ona with his wreck of a body. And he blesses her with the words ‘Through fire we are reborn.’ As Adam waits for Daron to deliver Seg, he glimpses Ona walking down the hall. She keeps muttering the same thing over and over again, and Adam follows her.

In the pub, Kem and Seg solemnly drink to celebrate. Jayna joins them but refuses Seg’s offer to a drink. Instead, Jayna tells him about her theory that Dru has come back not to save Krypton but, to rule it. That conversation is cut short, however, by Ona’s appearance.

Ona doesn’t react to Kem’s warm welcome. She only says, “Through fire we are reborn.” To everyone’s horror, they begin hearing, a ticking, and the inscriptions on Ona’s face starts glowing red. Adam stumbles in just in time and activates his Zeta beam which emits a crystalline forcefield before Ona self-destructs, protecting Seg and the others.

Adam leaves Kem and the others devastated as he is transported to an unknown realm. He discovers a blonde woman seemingly stuck in time. As Adam draws nearer to her, the woman’s pupils suddenly shifted to focus on him. And as Adam takes a closer look, it seems like he’s recognized her.

“Krypton” continues next Wednesday, May 16th, with “Hope” at 10/9c on SyFy.
