'Knightfall' Season 2, Episode 3 'Faith' Recap: God's Will

After discovering the deaths of their brothers, the Knights Templar prepare to exact revenge in Knightfall. God’s will dictates the Templars not to let their brothers’ deaths be in vain. While the French Royalty moves to ensure their kingdom’s security, a former Templar denounces everything that he once stood for.

On Monday night’s episode of Knightfall, the Knights Templar retaliate against the Luciferians. Fearing for his brothers’ lives, Landry (Tom Cullen) decides to take on the Luciferians alone. Meanwhile, King Philip (Ed Stoppard) ensures his kingdom’s safety by having French Archbishop Raymond DeGoth (Stephen Fewell) become the next Pope. Elsewhere, Prince Louis (Tom Forbes) does his fathers bidding as Gawain (Pádraic Delaney) pledges his service to the French.

The King’s Orders

The King of France is indeed a very busy man. After William De Nogaret (Julian Ovenden) presents Gawain, he orders De Nogaret to send for the French Archbishop. King Philip then informs Archbishop DeGoth about Pope Boniface’s (Jim Carter) death. Before DeGoth left, King Philip demands that DeGoth takes Boniface’s place. Before sending Prince Louis off, King Philip sternly advises his son to provide him an heir. If Queen Margaret (Clementine Nicholson) could not give a child to Prince Louis, then he must find someone to take her place. To King Philip, the throne must never remain empty.

History

Despite Queen Margaret’s arrival, Prince Louis heads out to fulfill his father’s mission for him, killing another infant born roughly the same time as Landry’s child. Returning to Queen Margaret, Prince Louis then attempts to have sex with her, but his body does not cooperate. Frustrated, the Prince throws objects around their room. Later that evening, Prince Louis invites Gawain to test him. The sight of his former home, as well as a discussion about faith, did not shake Gawain at all. Instead, he grabs the blade of Prince Louis’ sword pointed towards him and used it to draw blood from his hand, pledging his alliance through a blood pact.

History

The sight of Draper’s (Nasser Memarzia) body devastates both Templars and Initiates alike. Their deaths must not remain unavenged, so the Grandmaster (Matthew Marsh) orders the Templars and the Initiates to ambush the Luciferians’ camp. Because of this, the Initiates rush their training, miserably failing to achieve Landry’s skill in horseback riding.

While the Initiates dined in the mess hall, Initiate Master Talus (Mark Hamill) informs them of the time for their attack. Rattled, the Initiates ask for Landry’s help in training. However, Landry insists that they must figure out what to do within themselves. In the deep of night, Landy approaches Tancrede (Simon Merrells). Landry thanks Tancrede for keeping his daughter, Eve safe as well as for believing in him when no one else did. After his fellow Initiates fell asleep, Landry heads to the armory, gathers weapons, and leaves the castle through a secret exit, but his fellow Initiate, Rhone (Dean Ridge) sees him go.

History

Landry approaches the Luciferian camp by sunrise. He tries to take them out one by one, but only manages to kill one before another Luciferian caught a whiff of his presence. Landry then fights furiously and courageously as the Luciferians swarmed him. Indeed, Landry is a capable fighter as he manages to kill a considerable number of Luciferians before he gets overwhelmed. As Landry knelt, accepting his fate, Talus suddenly appears and kills all the remaining Luciferians.

The veteran mentor punches Landry to talk some sense into him. Insisting that death is not God’s will for him, Talus tells Landry to take heart. Landry has been given a chance to redemption, and to further highlight this point, Talus cites his experience during his ten-year imprisonment in the hands of the enemy. During his darkest hours, Talus begged God to relieve him of his misery, but this was not the case. Perhaps God kept him alive so that he could teach others who wish to be like him the ways of the Knights Templar.

History

Talus and Landry then went back to the castle. Silently, they rode towards the Cross. Landry goes off the horse, kneels and breaks into tears, asking and thanking God. As Talus does the same, the other Templars, as well as the Initiates, all went down on their knees to reflect.

‘Knightfall’ Season 2, Episode 3 ‘Faith’ Final Verdict

This episode highlights the foundation of a Templar’s life. It greatly improves Talus as well as Landry’s characters, formally creating the bond between Initiate and Initiate Master. Also, the dirty practices within the Church’s Clergy, especially between its high ranking officials. The French are bound to make a move against the Templars and is perhaps the most awaited battle in the season.

Knightfall continues Monday, April 15th with ‘Equal Before God’ at 10/9c on History.
