Nope, it turns out that Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) isn’t a thing after all—at least in real life. Apparently, what started out as Jon’s first romantic experience in “Game of Thrones” ultimately came true as he is now engaged to Ygritte (Rose Leslie)!
Harington and Leslie’s relationship lasted for five years (and counting), and now it blossomed into another level of intense commitment. A source by PEOPLE confirms the news.
Kit Harington and Rose Leslie’s slow build of romance
The couple was first rumored to be dating back in 2012, during the second season of “Game of Thrones.” Incidentally, this was also around the time when Ygritte and Jon first met in the show. However, after a year of dating, the couple reportedly split. But it didn’t last for long as they later got back together and refused to confirm their relationship until later in April 2016. They officially debuted as a couple during a red carpet event in London, during the Olivier Awards in April 2017.
Later that year, Harington opened up to L’Uomo Vogue about the early days of his romance with Leslie, saying that the environment around him helped him fall deeply in love with Leslie. “Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love,” Harington said. “If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love.”
Leslie also shared in 2014—via another interview with PEOPLE—about her relationship with the now King in the North. “Kit is a lovely and funny man, and a dear friend,” Leslie said. “We had known each other before we started working together on Game of Thrones. It was always such a privilege to be working opposite him and such a blessing that we get on in real life because it made our characters more believable.”
