The Los Angeles Police Department reports that Keya Morgan has been arrested. He was the long-time associate/manager of late Comic-book legend Stan Lee. Morgan is facing charges of elder abuse among others.
The LAPD released an official statement saying, “This morning, Scottsdale and Phoenix Police Department in collaboration with LAPD Commercial Crimes Detectives arrested Keya Morgan on an outstanding Arrest Warrant issued by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.”
“Mr. Lee had a large estate worth over an estimated $50 million with no clear protection from opportunists who could insert themselves into his life and take control of it,” the statement continued.
Morgan was arrested in Arizona by the Phoenix Police Department. But he (Morgan) will be extradited to face charges in Los Angeles. The LAPD is charging Morgan with one count of false imprisonment, three counts of embezzlement, and one count of elder abuse against Lee. The late comic book legend passed away last year in November.
On charges of elder abuse and false imprisonment, Morgan is being accused of abruptly removing Lee from his Hollywood Hills home. Morgan proceeded to place Lee in a condo in Beverly Hills. It is alleged that Morgan had significant influence over Lee. Morgan used this influence to coerce Lee into thinking he (Lee) was in danger.
Previous Allegations
Similarly, Joan Celia Lee (Lee’s daughter) requested a restraining order against Morgan last year before Lee’s death. She (Joan) said in her request that Morgan was manipulating the mentally declining Lee. She alleged that Morgan was intentionally trying to prevent Lee from seeing family and friends. And his goal was to take control of Stan Lee’s money and business affairs.
This isn’t the only time Morgan has been accused of coercing and manipulating Lee. Furthermore, he is also being charged with making away with over $262,000 from Lee during the comic legend’s autograph signing sessions.
TMZ additionally reported that Stan Lee’s attorneys claimed Morgan mishandled more than $5 million of Lee’s money. Antonio Castillo III, Morgan’s attorney, publicly refuted these claims. He said Morgan has never taken advantage of Stan Lee.
Castillo III describes the allegations as “without merit and designed solely to drag his [Morgan] name in the mud. The patently false claims of elder abuse are total lies and have been shown to be that previously. They are only resurfacing now because Stan Lee himself is no longer alive and able to refute them as he had done before.”
Probably Castillo III is likely referring to a video Lee himself made last year. In the video, Lee refutes claims of elder abuse by Keya Morgan. And even describes their relationship as “conquering the world side by side.”
A judge has set the bail for Keya Morgan at $300,000.
