We know that The Batman came out last weekend, but the Dark Knight is also set to make an appearance in DC League of Super-Pets. WB has actually found a big star to take on the role, and the new trailer has revealed that the animated Batman will be voiced by—Keanu Reeves.
Check it out:
Batman is the second big hero to get their VA reveal, the first being Superman who is being voiced by John Krasinski. Dascha Polanco has been revealed to be the voice of a Green Lantern, but we don’t know who’s going to be playing Wonder Woman, the Flash, or Cyborg just yet.
The film looks to have a good sense of meta-humor, with Batman mentioning licensed toys and Morgan Freeman. Even the early trailers had Superman talking about being called “Iron Man”.
While Marvel is flying high at the box office with their tried and true formula, DC is open to experimenting with the tone of their films. We can get dark noir stories with The Batman and Joker, but we can also get some kid-friendly adventures with Shazam! and DC League of Super-Pets. While I would love a Justice League team-up again, these more experimental films add some flavor that Marvel just isn’t delivering.
When the Justice League are captured by Lex Luthor, Superman’s dog, Krypto, forms a team of shelter-pets who were given super-powers: A hound named Ace, who becomes super-strong, a pig named PB, who can grow to giant-size, a turtle named Merton, who becomes super-fast, and a squirrel named Chip, who gains electric-powers.
DC League of Super-Pets hits theaters on May 20.
