Meet Kamala Khan in New Trailer for Ms. Marvel

Disney+ may be gearing up for the release of Moon Knight by the end of the month, but they just dropped another Marvel series that will be hitting the streaming platform in June.

The video didn’t come with an official synopsis, but it does have the tagline: “The future is in her hands.”

True to the rumors, it looks like Kamala will be given a completely new set of powers for the series. While the comic version of Kamala is an inhuman who has the power to shapeshift, the series is instead giving her the ability to conjure crystal-like forms which she can use either for attack or defense.

It also looks like Kamala’s bracelet is going to be the source of her powers, and it will have some kind of cosmic origin—much like the Ten Rings for Shang-Chi. Maybe this is what that after-credits scene was prepping the audience for.

Personally, I still think comic Kamala is goofier, and her shapeshifting powers kind of add to that part of her personality. We don’t know why Marvel opted for a change, but I suspect that it would be harder for VFX artists to stimulate shapeshifting without it looking silly. Besides, Marvel is probably holding out for that because of the Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards who might have the same skillset.

I’m just hoping that Kamala gets her signature catchphrase ‘Embiggen!’. If Square Enix’s Avengers can get Kamala right, then Marvel Studios is expected to do the same.

Ms. Marvel comes to Disney+ this June 8. Moon Knight is set to premiere on March 30.
