Justice League SDCC Trailer: Who’s Coming — Superman or Green Lantern?

The reveal of “Justice League’s” new trailer during this weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con has put some major questions to rest but also raised more as a character is revealed to be returning. Could it be Superman? Throughout the trailer, we see the likes of Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg go head to head with Steppenwolf’s forces (and even the villain himself!).
However, there is one key player who is notably still absent: the shining beacon of hope—Superman. But in the final seconds of the trailer, it seems as if Warner Bros. is suggesting Superman himself might make his glorious return to help the League finally defeat Steppenwolf and save the planet.
It hasn’t been exactly a ‘secret’ that Superman would somehow make his return after his death in “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.” DC Head honcho Geoff Johns has been teasing about his return online, and Gal Gadot also assured Superman fans that they will all be satisfied during the “Justice League” panel at Comic-Con.
The studio knows that the entire world is desperate for Superman. And they cannot deny the fact that without him, there is no “Justice League.” And so with the last few moments of the new trailer, is it a confirmation that Supes would return to Alfred first and then to the League second? Or is someone else being teased as well? Let’s take a breather and re-watch the trailer first.
Alfred To (Possibly) Superman: ‘He Said You Would Come’
After the widespread action and spectacular visuals featured in the new “Justice League” trailer, fans have once again been stood up by the Man of Steel. Personally, this would make the in-movie reveal even better, considering how he is the key player to end whatever Steppenwolf has planned. But this tease towards the end of the trailer gives us a clue that can drive one crazy if you just can’t help but wait for Superman.
In the trailer, we see Alfred busy tinkering with car parts and other machinery when a tremor happens—rocking everything in close proximity to Batman’s butler slash dude in the chair. The figure is then revealed off-cam, with Alfred looking like he literally just saw a ghost and says. “He said you would come. Now let’s hope… you’re not too late.” Assuming that the ‘He’ in this statement is Bruce Wayne, this might just suggest that it was Superman’s return that Bruce saw coming, and the glimpse of a red smudge near the corner of the frame leaves no doubt. Also, take note of how Alfred gives emphasis to the word “hope.”
With Bruce noting that Superman’s very existence gave humans the power and courage that they need, then his return might just be the one thing that could boost the League’s morale—or everything that Steppenwolf has ever feared from happening again.
As stated in the trailer, Superman has indeed come. But what if we’re wrong? Could it be someone else then?
Will ‘Justice League’ Introduce Green Lantern To The DCEU?
It’s no doubt that everyone who saw the new “Justice League” trailer was all hoping for a Superman reveal or a tease of that moment at the very least. But with all the dialogue surrounding the currently most-speculated statement in DCEU history about the Green Lantern. With this in mind, the Alfred scene might deserve a second look.
Steppenwolf acknowledges Superman’s death but also a well-known “Justice League” mainstay. “No Lanterns,” he says. Could this be Green Lantern that has been missing since the beginning of the DCEU? It might very well be Hal Jordan, Kyle Raynor or Jon Stewart for that matter. The red smudge at the scene might seem to point towards Superman, but then again it could be tweaked to make fans think the same thing. But if you would look closely, a smudge of green light illuminating the car parts when the tremor happened seemed to catch Alfred’s attention. Surely this can’t be kryptonite since Superman died because of it. But could this be the ray that comes from Green Lantern then?

Currently, these are all speculations. Maybe Green Lantern could help aid the League to bring Steppenwolf down since he hails from Earth and it is also a part of his sector. But until new footage or plot details are revealed, our guess is as good as everyone’s.
“Justice League” hits theaters November 17th.
