After 22 years, “Jumanji” is going back to the big screen with “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle.” The original 1995 movie was a staple movie for those who grew up in the 90’s. It starred the late Robin Williams and featured realistic versions of actual animals—pushing the impressive feat of CGI during that time.
The original “Jumanji” movie focused on a magical board game that transports the players into the enchanted world of “Jumanji.” The new film, however, updates the story’s main artifact for the new generation by using a computer game instead of a board game. But it’s not just a normal computer game, it’s a nintendo-like console that transports the players in a rather thrilling way into the jungle world.
Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle Official Synopsis
An official film poster and synopsis has also been released along with the trailer, and it features an Indiana Jones/Jurrasic Park mashup vibe. Check out the synopsis and poster below:
“In a brand new Jumanji adventure, the tables are turned as four teenagers are sucked into Jumanji’s world – pitted against rhinos, black mambas and an endless variety of jungle traps and puzzles. To survive, they’ll play as characters from the game: meek Spencer becomes a stupid and girl crazy jock (Dwayne Johnson); football jock Fridge becomes a tiny Einstein (Kevin Hart); It-girl Bethany becomes a bookworm professor (Jack Black); and unathletic Martha becomes an amazonian warrior (Karen Gillan). To beat the game and return to the Planet Earth with their lives, they’ll have to start seeing things in an entirely different way.”
It’s not clear if the new “Jumanji” film will be related to the original, given the amount of time that passed since the board game was first opened and the noticeable difference in the storyline.
The film’s primary come-on would probably be nostalgia, as it still draws heavy themes from its predecessor. Johnson first teased a “tribute” to Robin Williams in the new “Jumanji” film before production started. Jack Black also confirmed that “Welcome to the Jungle” will also take place within the same Jungle where Alan Parrish (Williams) was trapped 22 years ago. Now this could mean that the new characters might discover indications of Alan having lived in it too.
“Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle” hits theaters December 20th. Watch the trailer below:
