The Show Will Go On
But not without its star. The breast cancer diagnosis comes on the heels of Louis-Dreyfus’ record-breaking sixth consecutive win as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work in Veep. With the seventh season coming up, that makes Louis-Dreyfus’ return all the more anticipated. According to Variety, the show plans to adjust production schedules around the actress’ cancer treatments. HBO also released a statement expressing their confidence in the star and hope for her return to health.
Earlier this month, before the announcement of Louis-Dreyfus’ diagnosis, HBO also announced that Veep’s seventh season would be its last. In the statement, HBO Programming president Casey Bloys explained their decision to be a bittersweet one. Bloys also added, “Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ comedic brilliance infused Selina with a dynamic presence and a vibrant wit which will ensure her a place in the history of television’s most iconic comedic characters.”
Outpouring Of Support On Twitter
Following Louis-Dreyfus’ reveal on Twitter, the star also received a flood of supportive messages from friends, family, and fans. Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson and comedian Wanda Sykes both tweeted their support. Even Hillary Clinton sent an encouraging message to Louis-Dreyfus, from a real-life politician to a fictional one.
