Joker: Folie a duex Shares First Look at Joaquin Phoenix

DC Films has been through quite the wringer last week with all the rumors of cancelled projects and such, but we have a solid update on a highly-anticipated sequel to the hit solo movie Joker.

Just in, production has started for the movie, and director Todd Philipps shares a first image of Joaquin Phoenix in the film. Check this out:

The photo is captioned, ““Day 1. Our boy. #joker”.

No other details have been shared about the scene, but we can assume that it takes place in Gotham’s Arkham Asylum. Since the last movie implied that Arthur had killed a social worker in the end, it looks like the asylum isn’t letting him hold any sharp objects, that’s why there’s someone else shaving him, and it seems like his hands have been held down.

While Phoenix’s Joker is someone a lot of fans have been eager for an update on, there’s a lot of hype surrounding the debut of his co-star Lady Gaga as her own version of Harley Quinn. With Harley falling for the Joker during his time in Arkham, fans are assuming we’ll get to see that relationship unfold in the film—unless Phillips wants it to go another direction.

We’ve already seen the Harley/Joker romance done a handful of times, and I think it would be great if Phillips could add his own twist to it like he did with the character in the first Joker.
