The exciting new season of “The Exorcist” has just announced its newest cast member—”Star Trek Beyond’s” John Cho. The story will also move away from Chicago, with the original cast members not set to return for the second season. “The Exorcist” Season 2 comes with a new story arc and possibly a new setting for Fox’s TV adaptation of the classic William Friedkin film.
Back when Fox announced a series order for “The Exorcist,” a lot of diehard fans were unsure that the original theme and spirit of the film could be turned into a regular TV series. Given how the 1973 “Exorcist” film was a certified classic, the sequels were then treated as unnecessary additions and were otherwise a commercial and critical disappointment.
However, once the show premiered, fans were surprised as the show turned out to be a stylish and updated take on the original novel by William Peter Blatty. The central premise of “The Exorcist” TV show shocked fans and gave several twists and clever references to the original film. It gathered enough following that allowed Fox to renew “the Exorcist” for a second season.
It was also recently announced that only Alfonso Herrera (Father Tomas Ortega), Kurt Egyiawan (Father Bennett) and Ben Fields (Father Marcus Keane) will reprise their roles and that the Rance family won’t be the focus of the next season. While it’s kind of disappointing to see the Rance family go, at least the show gave them a proper send of and closure to their story.
New Plot Revealed For The Exorcist Season 2
Cho’s casting announcement was confirmed in a report by TVLine. Details of the upcoming second season of “The Exorcist” were a trickle few until now. Plot details have also been revealed along with Cho’s casting announcement:
“Father Ortega and the now collarless Keane find themselves out of Chicago and on the road, searching out evil. Ultimately, the two men are led to Andrew Kim, a former child psychologist who runs a group home for five at-risk foster children on a secluded private island off the coast of Seattle. When one of the children under Andrew’s care is targeted by a powerful force, the two priests head west, setting themselves on a collision course with Hell.”
Showrunner Jeremy Slater previously assured fans that the new storyline for “The Exorcist” Season 2 will be just as gripping as the first, and is also committed to continuing the satanic elements and ideas that were previously shown in the show.
“The Exorcist” premieres Friday, September 29 at 9/8c on Fox.
