Jim Carrey In Final Talks For a Villain Role in Sonic the Hedgehog Movie

Multi-faceted actor Jim Carrey is undergoing final talks to star as Sonic the Hedgehog’s villain, Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik.

Sonic the Hedgehog will be a CGI movie adaptation distributed by Paramount Pictures. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the SEGA video game movie will see Carrey as the game’s famous villain, Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik. As Carrey nears a deal to play the character, he will join James Marsden and Tika Sumpter, the previously-announced stars of the film.

Carrey’s role as the mad scientist somehow comes in contrast to his famous film The Mask where Carrey plays the insane comedic hero. Dr. Robotnik is a scientist that builds all kinds of robots in order to conquer the world. Only Sonic the Hedgehog can take him down.

Released in 1991, the video game Sonic the Hedgehog was launched and sold more than 80 million physical copies and 350 million units for packaged software and mobile downloads. Before the announcement of a Sonic the Hedgehog movie, the video game was previously featured as an animated TV series.

Jeff Fowler will direct the movie adaptation of SEGA’s popular video game. Fowler was the brains behind the animated short Gopher Broke, which was nominated in 2005 for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Neal Moritz, Mie Onishi, and Deadpool’s Tim Miller will serve as the producers for the film.
