Jenna Ortega had teamed up with Tim Burton with Netflix’s highly successful Wednesday series, and now she’s coming back for the revival of another Burton project—Beetlejuice.
As per DiscussingFilm, Ortega has been cast in Beetlejuice 2, and she’ll be playing the daughter of Winona Ryder’s character Lydia Deetz. Michael Keaton is also said to be returning to play Beetlejuice, and Burton himself is also coming back to helm the sequel.
We don’t have a synopsis for the sequel yet, but we can assume that Beetlejuice makes it out of the waiting room at the end of the movie to cause more havoc for the living and the dead. Though I can expect Ryder to have a sizeable role as Lydia in the film, I think the spotlight is now going to be on her daughter.
Here’s the trailer for the first film:
Michael Keaton, Academy Award winner Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, and Winona Ryder star in director Tim Burton’s comic twist on supernatural horror tales–Beetlejuice. When a couple of nice, young homebody ghosts try to haunt the pretentious humans who have moved into their house, they ask for help from a demonic wraith they cannot control in this comic fantasy that mixes the quick and the dead with a laugh and a fright.
With a release date set for next year, hopefully we get our first teaser for the sequel sometime later this year. With Keaton set to return as Batman in The Flash, I think WB may want to jump in on the hype by making their Beetlejuice announcement around the film’s release.
Beetlejuice 2 is set to release in theaters on Sept. 6, 2024. Catch Ortega in Wednesday now streaming on Netflix; you can also watch out for Ryder in Stranger Things.
