Jason Segel may be best known as the loveable Marshall in How I Met Your Mother, but he’s going to be playing a desperate hostage-taker in this new trailer for Windfall.
Watch this:
The logline reads: A Hitchcockian thriller following a young couple (Lily Collins, Jesse Plemons) who arrive at their vacation home only to find it’s being robbed.
The movie is being directed by Charlie McDowell, who had worked with Segel and Plemons in The Discovery. The movie also brings back writer Justin Lader and Andrew Kevin Walker, the latter being best known for writing the movie Se7en.
Though it may seem that Segel is the desperate criminal in the trailer, there does seem to be something going on with the power dynamics between the three. After all, this is Jesse Plemons we’re talking about, and he’s notorious for playing the villain—just check out his performances in Breaking Bad or Black Mirror.
If anything, the film looks like an interesting bottle episode, with several twists expected to take place between each character. It looks like Segel’s thief has a history with Plemons, and Plemons may be abusive to Collins—who might even end up teaming up with Segel by the end of the movie.
Personally, I was a fan of The Discovery, and I suggest you check that film out while you wait for Windfall. The concept of that film was just so interesting, and I can’t wait to see what McDowell brings to the table next.
Windfall comes to Netflix on March 18.
