'Jane the Virgin' Season 4, Episode 7 'Chapter Seventy-One' Fall Finale Recap: More Twists and Turns for Jane Villanueva [SPOILERS]

“Jane the Virgin” is back but only with one sweet goodbye for their fall finale. Season 4, episode 7 focuses on Jane’s book tour for her debut novel “Snow Falling.” But even her book tour cannot distract her from her recent breakup, as Adam is no longer in the picture. Yet Tyler Posey’s performance as Adam left quite an impression on Gina Rodriguez’s character, Jane, because it’s hard to promote a romance novel when you’ve recently been dumped. Meanwhile, a character comes back from the dead. Like in any good telenovela fashion, no one stays dead forever—at least for the next hour or so.

‘Jane The Virgin’ to Jane breaking down

The Villanueva women are taking a road trip to escape relationship troubles. Xo (Andrea Navedo) is still angry at Rogelio (Jaime Camil) for never approaching her when he had an inkling about Jane. Alba’s (Ivonne Coll) boyfriend proposed but she’s not ready to give an answer. Jane is heartbroken after asking Adam three times if he was in it for the long haul then be left hanging. Thank God for her book tour, because she can distract herself—or so she thought. It was supposed to be an opportunity to promote the book until it turned into a break-up session. During her first stop, Jane was asked about her boiok cover and she lost it. As we all remember, Adam designed the cover, which only reminded Jane of how he left her.
That’s not the only bump on the road of her book tour. She received her first book review, and was disappointed with how lukewarm it is. But it was enough for Jane to doubt if she has chosen the right career path. To liven things up, Alba and Xo tell Jane they should have one wild night out to forget their troubles. Xo and Alba even kept the fact Mateo was sick from Jane to prevent her from freaking out even more. The night out helped especially on the next leg of the tour. She was able to gracefully answer questions and keep her cool. She was even surprised when Michael’s mother, Patricia, attends her book signing—even though she wanted nothing to do with Jane’s book in the past. Patricia had a change of heart after reading the novel about her late son Michael.

Anezka faked her death

Yael Grobglas is playing Petra and Anezka once again. With a coffin in the middle of the hotel lobby, Petra is planning her twin sister’s funeral, not because she is mourning but mostly for hotel publicity. It wouldn’t be a nice headline if anyone found out Petra hated her twin. Before the funeral started, Petra sprayed her eyes with perfume to make her look like a mourning twin. Petra is quite convincing because Anezka jumped out of the bushes greeting her beautiful sister. She admits to Petra she faked her suicide after hearing Fabiano and Jane’s conversation. Anezka wanted to know who truly cared for her so she hired an actress to stage her suicide.
“Jane the Virgin” sure loves playing out telenovela cliches and giving them a comedic twist. Instead of having a sudden change of heart, Petra uses her sister’s trust to her advantage. She tells Anezka that their mother could careless about her. She was proven right when Anezka wore her Petra wig again. As their mother was packing Anezka’s things, Anezka as Petra confronts her mother for not grieving. Their mother tells her Anezka was weak for killing herself; she might as well roll on her grave. Anezka reveals herself and stormed off angry. The Petra wig is pretty helpful when Anezka found out her twin sister faked her tears and despises her.
We see a different side of Anezka, and we also see her become as manipulative as Petra was during the first couple seasons. Petra threatens her twin about confronting Luisa for the whole Carl situation. But Anezka beat her to the punch and twisted the story, making it look like Petra was the villain. In the end, it was Anezka’s last scheme. This time, someone actually murdered her. Was it Petra? Their mother? Petra’s secretary? Was it Carl? Who knows, but it’s safe to say her death is real this time.

#TeamRafael might be endgame

Team Rafael shippers rejoice! “Jane the Virgin” season 4 has constantly teased fans of the possibility of Jane and Rafael (Justin Baldoni). Now we get a kiss! A glimpse of how Rafael was more than an accidental dad is also shown. It all started when Jane worked at a seaside restaurant and opened it for Rafael. The two shared not only a meal but a conversation about dreams. He tells Jane that she should pursue her dreams of becoming a writer. All she had to do was be brave. He repeats the same speech to her before Jane goes off on her book tour. The moment was so heartwarming, you can tell the love between the two was never lost.

After taking their son to bed, Jane tells Rafael that she isn’t cut out for being a writer. Rafael again reminds her all she needs is bravery. Sure, she’ll get bad or even more lukewarm reviews about her book, but she shouldn’t give up on something she loved. They then share a kiss.
However, they’re not the only ones working on a relationship. Xo tells Rogelio they should see a marriage counselor, while Alba rejects her boyfriend’s proposal. But at least we know Jane and Rafael are going to explore their feelings. Their kiss was the perfect way to end the Fall finale.
“Jane the Virgin,” returns with the season 4 Winter premiere Friday, January 26, 2018, with “Chapter Seventy-Two” at 9/8c on The CW.
