Jane The Virgin Season 4 Episode 15 'Chapter Seventy-Nine' Recap: Tests And A Lot Of I Love Yous [SPOILERS]

“Jane The Virgin” may be a comedy, but it hits the heart right where it hurts. The CW show has tackled many tearjerking storylines such as Michael’s death but Season 4 took it up a notch with Xiomara’s (Andrea Navedo) cancer arc. Despite the sad storyline, “Jane The Virgin” still finds a way back to comedy.

Jane (Gina Rodriguez) learns that J.R. doesn’t quite like her, but that doesn’t stop her from trying. Meanwhile, Rogelio (Jaime Camil) is nervous to talk to Darci and Alba (Ivonne Coll) studies for her U.S. Citizenship exam.

Petra (Yael Grobglas) didn’t like Jane when they first met but as the seasons progressed they formed an unlikely friendship. Since then, Petra had become an important part of Jane’s life. Especially on this week’s episode when Petra’s twins accidentally meet JR, Petra’s other Jane. Rafael (Justin Baldoni), of course, was judgy about who is brought into his children’s lives. Remember Jane’s, Ex-boyfriend Adam? Rafael grilled the hell out of him, and Petra wants to avoid that sort of situation. So our Jane comes to the rescue. But JR preferred Rafael’s fine taste in liquor over Jane’s over-eagerness to become friends.

What JR doesn’t know is how relentless Jane can be when it comes to family. Petra is part of her family, and she wants to make sure JR knows it. Jane corners JR in the elevator explaining why she comes off so strong towards her. Jane mentions that JR was an important person in Petra’s life. In the chillest way possible, Jane tells Petra she loves her–in a platonic way, of course. Unlike her girlfriend, Petra tells Jane she loves her too but in a quieter and less clingy manner. As long as these two are okay, Jane doesn’t mind if JR doesn’t like her because not everyone likes everyone.

Using the Cancer Card

Rogelio’s about to start pre-production of his new show which means he no longer has Daddy duties. But he doesn’t want to admit that to his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, Darci. Because it would only mean she was right about how Rogelio is a flake when it comes to enormous responsibilities. Rogelio getting the hang of being a father was an entertaining storyline at first, but it was time for him to get back to work. Though when he confronted Darci, he pulled out the Cancer card, instead of telling the truth. But in the end, Rogelio’s lie came back to bite him. He and Darci sat down to have a mature conversation about their relationship. Maybe we will see them get along better in future episodes.

The Cancer card was pulled again but this time for a good cause. A few seasons ago, Alba applied for a green card, but of course, the waitlist is long. “Jane the Virgin” did justice when it came down to immigration policies. Realistically, it’s long and grueling process, and it took a few more seasons to get back to it. Blindsided by her U.S. examination, Alba had to study hard to pass. The Villanueva women made sure Alba would pass even with a broken heart. But they were two minutes late for the exam. Xiomara had to use all of her strength to convince the guard to let her mother take the exam. She pulled out the Cancer card, and Alba was able to pass the exam. She is now officially a U.S Citizen!

New Relationship Highs and Lows

Even though J.R. doesn’t like Jane, other characters love her. Especially Rafael, who was shocked when Jane finally blurted out “I love you,” with no hesitancy or drama. It was a sweet moment between the two until he decided to read Jane’s post-sex burst of inspiration. He was hoping to learn about their love story only to find another Michael story. Rafael was always insecure about Michael, even after his passing Rafael felt that he was Jane’s second choice. When he confronted Jane, she told him that the same night she wrote the story was also Michael’s death anniversary. It was the first time in years she forgot about it. Rafael was there to help Jane realize even after Michael she could fall in love again. So in love, Jane asks Rafael to find a place together!

Meanwhile, Petra finally tells JR she wants to be serious with her. Even though JR mentioned she doesn’t like kids, Petra’s twins would be an exception. Petra had different love interests on the show, but none of them could make her giggle. But things seem to be too good there has to be a curve-ball coming soon. During JR’s official dinner with the twins, the Defense Attorney’s office called telling her about new information regarding Petra’s case. There was an eye-witness to Anezka’s death, and that witness is no other than Petra’s scheming mother.

“Jane the Virgin,” returns Friday, April 13th with “Chapter Eighty” at 9/8c on The CW.
