Is 'Jane The Virgin' Ending After Season 5?

“Jane the Virgin” continues to rack up devoted followings both online and TV viewership. It’s currently on its fourth season, but it looks like this might be the second to the last season that we’ll see Jane go through family issues, romantic problems, and everything else in between. According to Gina Rodriguez, Season 5 will be the last for the show—at least, that’s what she thinks it is.
In a panel during SXSW Sunday, Deadline reports that Rodriguez “plans to direct more episodes” of The CW’s hit comedy musical show—significantly coming at par with Rachel Bloom’s “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend—next year, during “our final season.” While the actress/director didn’t elaborate on the reveal (and tried to redact her statement in the end), it did leave fans wondering. Rodriguez was on a panel during Create & Cultivate and Fossil’s Women To Watch Day in Austin.

Of course, it’s too early to tell if “Jane The Virgin” will indeed end during the fifth season, as The CW is yet to announce a renewal deal for the next season of the comedy show. For all we know, it might not even see the season 5, but given how immensely popular and relevant the show is since it premiered in 2014, it’s a safe assumption that “Jane the Virgin” is bound to return for another season (or its last).
Despite the apparent end for “Jane the Virgin,” Rodriguez commented on the success of the show, and what makes it one of the best comedy shows with style and substance.
“What is so amazing about Jane the Virgin isn’t just that Jane is a Latina, but she’s a woman,” Rodriguez said. “You can never tell us that we are not profitable. You can never tell us that people do not want to see our stories.”
“Jane the Virgin” continues Friday, March 16th with “Chapter Seventy-Seven” at 9/8c on The CW.
