Despite what everyone assumes to be a sure role for actor Jake Gyllenhaal, Marvel Studios Head Kevin Feige says that the actor is still not confirmed to play the villain Mysterio for the Homecoming sequel, Spider-Man: Far From Home.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Feige addressed the rumors about Gyllenhaal’s casting, and said that there is no word if the actor will appear as Mysterio in the sequel or not. Spider-Man: Far From Home is about to begin production in two weeks, and this makes things a little bit more mysterious (pun intended).
Feige, however, did share a few details about the sequel’s title. “Well, I mean, sure, let the speculation begin. That’s always fun,” Feige said. “We like [the title] of course because it ties into Homecoming, not just keeping that word going, which we like and we liked it more than Homecoming 2, but that notion of ‘home’ is a word that has dual meanings we’d like to continue with this [Marvel Cinematic Universe] version of Spider-Man. So, Far From Home has multiple meanings.”
Rumors about Gyllenhaal’s casting began circulating last month, and fans couldn’t contain their excitement. Now, given the case of the actor still in the running to play Mysterio, it’s still good to know that Gyllenhaal seems to be everyone’s bet for the role. And with production about to start, it won’t be soon before we find out about Marvel’s final decision for Gyllenhaal and Mysterio.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is slated for release on July 5, 2019.
