The author-turned-screenwriter confirmed the news via Twitter, when a fan asked her about the status of “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” sequel. The author responded with a confirmation which you can check out below:
This comes as an exciting development for “Fantastic Beasts 2.” It just means that things are going smoothly in terms of pre-production (which is scheduled to begin by August this year).
Little is known about the screenplay and premise of the sequel in general, but by the looks of it, “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” will be expanding and exploring the different narratives found in the new prequels established in the first movie. Plot rumors suggest that “Fantastic Beasts 2” will be bringing the subplots found in the first movie in the sequel.
David Yates will be back to helm the series, with Jude Law coming in as the young Albus Dumbledore. Things are getting more exciting especially with Law’s addition to the cast. This might just be the primary focus of the sequel, with Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander expected to be exposed in a smaller role.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” is slated for a November 16, 2018 release date.
