J.J. Abrams' Live-Action Remake of Your Name. Finds Director

2016’s animated film Your Name. is considered to be a modern classic, and has made director Makoto Shinkai a must-watch talent. Like any classic animated film, Hollywood wants to make a live-action remake of the project, and now they’ve found a director.

Variety reports that Carlos Lopez Estrada has signed on to direct the remake of Your Name. by Bad Robot, Paramount, and Toho. Estrada is said to be rewriting a script that originally came from writer Eric Heisserer; and the film is being produced by none other than J.J. Abrams and the producer of the original movie, Genki Kawamura.

Here’s the description of the remake:

In this re-imagined version, two teenagers discover they are magically and intermittently swapping bodies. When a disaster threatens to upend their lives, they must journey to meet and save their worlds.

We don’t know how Bad Robot plans to reboot this franchise, but maybe just because I’m used to them making huge sci-fi films, I have a feeling that the Your Name. reboot is planning to be one heck of a visual spectacle.

If anything, the animated film is already pretty solid, with incredible visuals, and wonderfully animated sequences. I don’t really know how a live-action movie could improve on the source material, but if J.J. Abrams is willing to move forward with it, I think they’re planning an unexpected angle.

No release date has been announced for the Your Name. remake, but I suggest you check out the original film if you haven’t already.
