“iZombie” Season 4, Episode 2, titled “Blue Bloody,” introduces more bleeding hearts intervening in solving cases of murder. Liv (Rose Mclver) and Major (Robert Buckley) reunite, but apparently their differences of proposition results to another catastrophic breakup. Meanwhile, Clive (Malcolm Goodwin) and Bozzio’s (Jessica Harmon) relationship slowly goes haywire. Indeed, the human-zombie relationship made working on an intimate relationship a hurdle.
Mrs. Brinks’ callousness makes the case a mess
For the heartless Mrs. Brinks, Liv can’t do any good with her hostile and superior attitude after eating her brains following Mrs. Brinks’ death. Clive and Liv struggle to solve the murder case, despite her rude and cruel personality. They suspected her employees—the chauffeur, chef, and gardener—for killing Mrs. Brinks because of her insensitivity, but the chef made it on top of the list.
After investigating, Liv and Clive were able to persuade the chef to confess. The chef apparently needed money for her son’s medical bills. The persuasion worked after Liv and Clive agreed to smuggle the Chef’s son out of Seattle. After the deal, the chef was taken away. Liv, on the other hand, didn’t seem to care about the chef’s son.
Liv finally comes back to her senses
Eventually, Mrs. Brinks’ consciousness wears off, leaving Liv drowning in guilt. Liv cries to Ravi (Rahul Kohli) as she concedes her indifference to the chef’s kid under the influence of Mrs. Brinks. Ravi comforts Liv and helps her find a way to snatch the chef’s kid out of Seattle. They met with the chauffeur and the gardener to help transport the kid through the checkpoint. Apparently, Major is on duty and stopped them. After Major intimidated Ravi and Liv, he lets them through. They all arrive at a laundromat, where they were supposed to drop off the child. This act finally relieved Liv with her guilty feeling—but it doesn’t end there.
Liv and Major’s breakup series
Liv came home earlier and waited for Major. When Major arrived, the couple argues about the checkpoint incident. Liv was shocked that because of Major’s alignment with Fillmore Graves, his principles drastically changed. Major became more strict and hardened as an individual. He prioritized his reputation at Fillmore Graves and said that he did not want to do the right thing, shocking Liv.
Liv sadly cannot see the Major Lilywhite she used to love—the social worker who puts the welfare of the children over his. Major and Liv argued so hard they can’t seem to agree on anything. Major finally shares to her some feelings he’s been harboring for a while.
Major: God, you’re holier than thou! You think you’re the only good zombie. The only zombie trying to make things right!
Liv: Oh, I’m sorry. Maybe it’s that I remember a Major Lilywhite who would stick by a sick child.
Major: This thing we’ve been doing, sleeping with each other because we can because it’s easy, we can’t do it anymore. Not when I know my life choices so offend you.
Liv: Agreed. Goodbye Major.
But as Major holds the young soldier recruits, it gives hope that he might go back to his old self: the social worker, a counselor, and a soft-hearted man passionate about providing a new direction to lost teenagers.
Clive and Bozzio struggle with intimacy issues
Clive seeks help from Ravi, looking for some medicine to tame his libido. The Human-zombie relationship has been making a big intimacy issue on Clive and Bozzio’s relationship. It’s just like how Major and Liv tried to make their relationship work during the second season but failed. Ravi gave the medication to Clive but got caught by Bozzio. She found the pills in their bathroom and confronted Clive about it. Bozzio said she wouldn’t insist that Clive denied his urges to try to make their situation better and said they would find another way.
“Another way” seems unfeasible, just like how Liv and Major struggled and failed to make their relationship survive despite the differences. But their “way” is something to look forward to if they will surpass the misfortune of their relationship. Are they going to end up like the catastrophe of Liv and Major’s love story?
“iZombie” continues Monday, March 12th with “Brainless in Seattle” at 9/8c on The CW.
