It’s a Modern Fantasy Adventure in New Featurette for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

It may be a while before we see him as Captain Kirk again, but Chris Pine is set to star in the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie Honor Among Thieves. Just in, we have a new featurette for the film, and it promises a modern action fantasy befitting of the players who’ve kept the game alive through all these years.

A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.

While the lore of Dungeons & Dragons is generally serious fantasy, it feels like the film is embracing the fans who play it, hence giving the film its very modern tone. We don’t have a look at 20-sided dice or a Dungeon Master, but the interactions between characters and a lot of the creatures are very classic D&D monsters come to life.

Probably the closest thing we have to modern D&D these days is The Legend of Vox Machina on Amazon which is based on a real-life D&D campaign. With Honor Among Thieves though, I think we should expect something more kid-friendly to introduce a new generation of players to the world of Dungeons & Dragons.
