Indiana Jones 5: Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Character Helena Officially Revealed

We all know that Harrison Ford is coming back for Indiana Jones 5, but there’s a lot of mystery on who Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) is playing.
Thanks to Empire, we finally know that Waller-Bridge is actually Indy’s goddaughter, Helena. We don’t really know how Helena finds herself attached to Indy’s adventure, but Waller-Bridge describes the character as, ‘a mystery and a wonder.’ Director James Mangold says Helena is a “slippery, charming, the girl next door, a grifter,” and Harrison Ford himself describes the character as ‘a pioneer in ethical accounting.’
Back in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Lucasfilm had tried to introduce us to Indy’s son in the form of Shia LaBeouf, but the film wasn’t that well-received, and after some public scandals with LaBeouf, it seems that we won’t be seeing Mutt Williams in the near future.
Going back to Helena though, there’s a lot of speculation that she could be taking on the Indiana Jones mantle moving forward. Then again, with Harrison Ford being pretty much done running around and falling down in the name of archaeology, some think that this could be a Logan-type send-off, which could close the book on Indy’s story and have Helena be the ‘X-23’ character that says good-bye for the audience.
Then again, I’m just speculating. After multiple delays, I’m excited that we’re finally getting a look at this movie. Hopefully it’s the swan song that everyone thought Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was going to be.
Indiana Jones 5 is set to come out June 30, 2023.
