Groot is set to return with the Guardians of the Galaxy in Thor: Love and Thunder, but he’s also set to have his own Disney+ series later this year. Just in, director James Gunn has announced the release date for the show I Am Groot.

While some were expecting a children’s series with I Am Groot, I guess it’s going to be a series of original shorts, which means that we could be looking at a higher quality of CG when it comes to this show.
It’s also worth noting that the poster features a younger, Baby Groot. Since Groot is pretty much in his pre-teens when it comes to the current Guardians timeline, this could mean that the show is going to be a prequel; but on the other hand, it could be an anthology that explores multiple areas of Groot’s life, maybe even before he was running around with Rocket Raccoon.
No official synopsis has been released, but Marvel describes the show as, ‘following Baby Groot’s glory days growing up, and getting into trouble among the stars.’ Who knows, maybe we could be looking at an even earlier version of Baby Groot, seeing as he was around 25 when we meet him in the first Guardians. Who knows what kind of story he has before he met Rocket? There has to be a reason why the Collector was so enamoured with him when they met.
I Am Groot is set to come out Aug. 10 on Disney+. In the meantime, you can watch out for Groot in Thor: Love and Thunder which comes to theaters on July 8.
