It looks like Hugh Jackman’s take on Wolverine might not be final after all—at least, according to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Sebastian Stan. The actor says that Jackman is thinking about his possible return as Logan for an Avengers and X-Men crossover.
Ever since the Disney-Fox merger, the movie rights for the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchise went back to Marvel, and there’s only so much that we can speculate as to what changes would happen to the current MCU timeline. On that note, Stan was at Aco Comic-Con panel with “Avengers: Infinity War” co-stars Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie. When the Disney-Fix deal was brought up, Stan answered with some pretty intriguing information.
Sebastian Stan on probing Hugh Jackman for another Wolverine role
According to Comic Book, Stan asked Hugh Jackman about the future of the Avengers and the X-Men within the MCU. “Recently I happened to be sitting next to Hugh Jackman,” Stan said. “I didn’t know what other awkward things I could talk about but to be like, ‘Am I going to see you soon?’ I don’t know. But he said a couple of things to me, and I’ll just leave it at that. Otherwise, I feel like I’m going to get into trouble with somebody.”
Stan then asked Jackman whether or not “Logan” was supposed to be Jackman’s final Wolverine thing. “I asked him because I kept thinking he said whether or not that was, Logan, was supposed to be the last Wolverine thing or whatever and he said to me, well I think he publicly said out there, which was like he’s been thinking about it and it’s been on his mind. So, I don’t; he may be.”
Jackman: ‘I would like to see Wolverine in there [the MCU].’
“Logan,” as far as everyone knows, is officially Jackman’s final Wolverine film. However, Jackman offered up a spark of hope for Marvel fans. “It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together,” Jackman said. “And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head.”
But it was like, ‘Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,’ and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline—it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously—I was like, ‘Hang on!’ But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else, I would like to see Wolverine in there.”
Now there’s no official word from the head honchos at Marvel on the matter. But given the vast opportunity of making things right when it comes to the X-Men’s timeline, it might just be a possibility for Jackman to go back to the fore. Then again, despite how legitimate Stan and Jackman’s statements are, it’s still up to the big fishes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to decide. After all, the Disney-Fox merger won’t drastically change things in the MCU yet because there’s still a year or two for the relegation of these properties.
