How I Met Your Father Renewed for a Second Season

The first season of How I Met Your Father hasn’t even ended yet, but it looks like Hulu is ready to tell more of Sophie’s story.

According to Variety, How I Met Your Father has been renewed for a second season, and what’s more, they’ve upped the episode count from 10 to 20.  Head of scripted originals for Hulu Jordan Helman had this to say about the renewal:

“Isaac and Elizabeth’s inspired vision for ‘How I Met Your Father’ has proven to be true appointment viewing that fans cannot get enough of week to week… The lives of these characters, as portrayed by the immensely talented cast led by Hilary Duff, are just starting to unfold and we’re thrilled to bring more of this group’s journey to our viewers with a supersized second season.”

Just like the original How I Met Your Mother, HIMYF follows an older Sophie telling her kid how she met their dad. The interesting twist to the trope is, we had already met the father in the first episode, and it’s our job as the audience to guess who Sophie ends up with in the group. It’s actually pretty clever that they keep the audience in the seat of Sophie’s kid this time, because now even the ethnicity of the father is left a mystery.

I’ll admit, the series doesn’t start off as strong as the original How I Met Your Mother, but there is a lot of potential with each character. With HIMYM tackling the dating life of the early ‘00s, HIMYF will be telling the story of today’s young adults a.k.a. the Millenials and Zoomers. There’s even the promise of some HIMYM cameos down the line.

How I Met Your Father is now streaming on Hulu.
