The Power Sword is set for a revival as a new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series is in the drawing board at Netflix. But that’s not just the best bit of news today. Pop Culture phenom Kevin Smith is on board as an executive producer and showrunner (via Deadline).
Aptly titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation, the new He-Man show will have an anime spin to it and will focus on the unresolved storylines of the original ’80s animated series. Despite it addressing the original show’s untouched plot points, Masters of the Universe: Revelation will be an original story based off of Mattel’s iconic toy franchise.
Netflix also released the show’s official poster:
The war for Eternia begins again! Superstar director Kevin Smith continues the original series’ story right where it left off in Masters of the Universe: Revelation, a new series telling the epic tale of what may be He-Man and Skeletor’s final battle. pic.twitter.com/41rOXjZLtO

Rob David, Mattel Television Vice President will co-executive produce alongside Smith. And it looks like the new He-Man anime will sport a compelling narrative worthy of Grayskull’s power, as it brings together a team of impressive writers—Eric Carrasco (Supergirl), Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen), Diya Mishra (Magic the Gathering), and Marc Bernardin (Alphas).
Masters of the Universe: Revelation joins another He-Man property on Netflix, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Just like He-Man, She-Ra is an incredibly powerful warrior of Eternia. She also brandishes a weapon similar to the Power Sword, the Sword of Protection. In the ’80s animated series, She-Ra is He-Man’s sister (as of now, it remains to be seen whether or not the two shows will crossover).
In a statement, Smith expressed his enthusiasm over the new Netflix project. “I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” Smith said. “In Revelation, we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”
