Adam McKay has just gotten another win with Don’t Look Up on Netflix, and now he’s teaming up with HBO Max for a story about the rise of one of the most popular basketball teams in the world—the LA Lakers. Here’s the first look at Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.

Here’s the official description:
Welcome to the hottest show in town. It’s gonna be exciting. From Adam McKay, director of ‘The Big Short’ and ‘Vice’ comes a story about the rise of basketball Hall Of Famer Magic Johnson (Quincy Isaiah) and the lengths one man (John C. Reilly) will go in pursuit of securing a basketball dynasty.
Though Quincy Isaiah may be a newcomer, he’s definitely surrounded by A+ acting talent. Besides John C. Reilly, the series also includes Jason Clarke, Sally Field, Jason Segel, Adrien Brody, and Rob Morgan—all playing people who were essential to the story of the Lakers’ claim to fame.
I’ll admit, I do miss some of McKay’s more silly films like Step Brothers, but he has since reinvented himself as a more serious director. After working on films like The Big Short, he’s been making some more socially relevant and historically based films like Vice and now Winning Time. We should expect Winning Time not to be any different.
Catch Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty when it hits HBO Max on March 6.
