HBO has always been a hub of ambitious shows, and one of them has always been Westworld from Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan. Despite an acclaimed run for four seasons, it looks like HBO is closing the doors of Delos and this future world.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has decided to cancel Westworld after its fourth season. We don’t know why they decided to end the show after Season Four, but we do know that there were plans for a fifth and final season. Nolan had said, “We always planned for a fifth and final season… We are still in conversations with the network. We very much hope to make them.”
Even if there were plans, it looks like HBO’s decision is final, and Kilter Films has released the statement:
“We’ve been privileged to tell these stories about the future of consciousness – both human and beyond – in the brief window of time before our AI overlords forbid us from doing so.” – Kilter Films pic.twitter.com/vYlFiEI5qU

Westworld has expected to be HBO’s next flagship series after Game of Thrones, but the series never managed to gain that kind of popularity that Thrones did. Some say that it could be due to the very complicated nature of the show’s narrative; but even if the series never managed to gain that kind of popularity with the audience, it was still a critical darling, receiving several emmy nominations, and delivering powerhouse performances from members of the cast from Thandiwe Newton to Ecan Rachel Wood.
I’m hopeful that we could get some kind of movie down the line, but the way HBO has been shaking things up, I think we’ll have to wait a while before we can see them reconsider a return to Westworld.
