Hayden Christensen: Obi-Wan Kenobi Series will have Prequel-Era Lightsaber Fights

If there’s one thing the Star Wars prequel trilogy delivered better than the sequels, it’s definitely the lightsaber choreography. J.J. Abrams opted for something that looked closer to the original trilogy when he directed the ST, but it looks like we’ll be going back to the prequels for the fights in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

This was confirmed by Darth Vader actor Hayden Christensen who told Total Film (via NabooNews):

“[The lightsaber fighting style is] more in line with the prequels than we are with how the fights are in the original trilogy. These characters have aged, but not that much yet.”

While the lightsaber fighting in the original trilogy was pretty clunky, George Lucas had decided to bring a more ‘flowing’ type of combat when it came to the prequels. This resulted in one of the more unique visuals from Star Wars besides the spaceships and crazy aliens.

Though we’ve seen Obi-Wan and Anakin fight in their youth, we should expect them to be a bit more aged up when it comes to the Kenobi series. Even then, they should still be sprier as compared to when they fight in A New Hope. Christensen continues, He is 100 percent a fully realized Vader. This is, in a lot of ways, Vader in his prime. But he’s a very complex character, and there’s an inherent struggle of identity that is always present – there’s inner conflict”

Catch Obi-Wan Kenobi when it premieres on Disney+ on May 27.
